Saudi Calls, Mediation
CNN Arabic reported that Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah received a fresh phone call on Monday from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs published by the Saudi News Agency (SPA).
CNN Arabic said the statement described discussions of developments following the peace negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, and that the Iranian semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported the two exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and on the Iranian-American negotiations in Islamabad.

CNN Arabic also said the talks mediated by Pakistan between the U.S. and Iran on Saturday failed to reach a final agreement on a ceasefire, and that Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, announced on Sunday that Pakistan will continue its mediation after the marathon round of talks in Islamabad ended without an agreement.
The same CNN Arabic account referenced that the two foreign ministers had, during a phone call last Thursday, discussed "the course of events and ways to curb the pace of tensions to help restore security and stability in the region," according to SPA at the time.
De-escalation and Stakes
Egypt’s foreign ministry said Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, held a telephone call with Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Saturday, May 23, to discuss the trajectory of the U.S.-Iran negotiations and efforts to de-escalate in the region.
“Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah received a fresh phone call on Monday from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs published by the Saudi News Agency (SPA)”
In that call, the two ministers stressed the need to lower the level of regional tension and to avoid the risks of ill-considered escalation that threaten the region's security and stability, while affirming that prioritizing dialogue and pursuing the negotiation path represents the only option to address outstanding issues.
Elnashra reported that Qatar’s Foreign Ministry announced that Mohammed bin Abdulrahman discussed in a call with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan the Pakistani mediation efforts between the United States and Iran, and that coordinating efforts to de-escalate were raised during the call.
Elnashra also stated that Mohammed bin Abdulrahman spoke by phone with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan about Pakistan’s mediation between the United States and Iran, as the diplomatic track continued after the Saturday talks did not produce a final ceasefire agreement.
