The visit came shortly after the resumption of air travel and railway links between the two countries.

Wang's trip was the first in about 6 years and 7 months since September 2019.

The two announced plans to mark the 65th anniversary of the North Korea-China Treaty of Friendship.

Wang Yi and Choe Son Hui emphasized strengthening strategic communication and cooperation.

Choe stated that North Korea fully supports the one China principle and firmly opposes interference in China's internal affairs.

The visit came ahead of a planned summit between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump.
