Border gunfire and strikes
A gunman from Lebanon opened fire on Israeli troops at the border on Tuesday afternoon before they shot him dead, and the Israel Defense Forces said no troops were injured.

The IDF said the gunman entered Israeli territory but did not cross the border fence, and a preliminary probe found the incident took place in a military zone inside Israeli territory around 1,200 meters from Margaliot.
In the same period, Israeli strikes killed eight people in Tyre, according to Lebanon’s health ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians, and the IDF later declared an “all-clear” at 5:50 p.m. after ruling out any additional threats.
The IDF also issued its first-ever call for residents to flee the entire coastal city and environs, and army spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee stressed the warning included Tyre’s Christian quarter, which had been spared such orders until then.
Separately, the Lebanese state-run National News agency reported four people, including a 16-year-old, killed Tuesday morning in Israeli strikes on the area of Nabatieh, farther inland from Tyre in south Lebanon.
Hezbollah urges ties with Iran
Hezbollah urged Lebanese authorities to “seize the opportunity available and correct their official relationship with the Islamic republic,” days after Iran struck Israel in response to bombardment on south Beirut, a Hezbollah statement said.
Hezbollah described Iran’s attack on Israel “in defense of our Lebanese people” as “a message of the Islamic republic’s commitment, morally, politically and on the ground, toward Lebanon.”

The party also framed its position as a rebuttal to Lebanese political figures who accused Iran of destabilizing the region, and it rejected what it called “baseless accusations” against Tehran.
In a separate statement carried by Al Jazeera net, Hezbollah said Iran’s missile response to Israel was “a message of moral, political, and on-the-ground commitment from Iran to Lebanon,” and it urged Lebanese authorities to “rectify its official relations with Iran.”
The BBC reported that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said reaching a peace agreement between Israel and Lebanon could be possible “as early as tomorrow” were it not for Hezbollah, while diplomats from Israel and Lebanon held a fourth round of talks in Washington despite ongoing exchange of fire along their borders.
Ceasefire talks under pressure
As ceasefire efforts remained fragile, the BBC reported that the Israeli army continued striking targets in southern Lebanon after an agreement backed by U.S. President Donald Trump to stop striking Beirut, and it said the agreement also prevents Hezbollah from launching missiles and drones toward Israel.
“Rubio: Hezbollah 'the obstacle' to a peace agreement between Lebanon and Israel”
During the same reporting, the BBC quoted a resident describing the situation near Sidon: “We are trapped, we cannot flee and we feel tense,” while another said, “We are waiting for shelling at any moment. We cannot stay in the village and we cannot evacuate.”
The BBC also said the Lebanese Health Ministry announced four deaths and 127 injuries, including 39 among hospital medical, nursing and administrative staff, and it added that BBC eyewitnesses inside Jabal Amel Hospital said the hospital was heavily damaged by an Israeli raid.
In Washington, the BBC said Rubio told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that “Israel and Lebanon can reach a peace agreement immediately,” adding that “Hezbollah is the only obstacle,” while the BBC also reported Hezbollah’s opposition to what it called the “equation” of Israel refraining from bombing Beirut’s southern suburb in exchange for Hezbollah refraining from targeting northern Israel.
Meanwhile, Il Sole 24 ORE reported Trump’s warning to Netanyahu that “Watch out, or you’ll be left to face Tehran on your own,” and it said the UN Security Council was meeting to discuss sanctions against Tehran.
