Ceasefire tests in Hormuz
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard navy warned that any attack on Iranian oil tankers or commercial vessels would be met with a “heavy assault” on one of the US bases in the region and enemy ships, even as a tenuous ceasefire appeared to be holding.
“Iran's Revolutionary Guard navy warned that any attack on Iranian oil tankers or commercial vessels would be met with a “heavy assault” on one of the US bases in the region and enemy ships, even as a tenuous ceasefire appeared to be holding”
The warning came a day after the United States struck two Iranian oil tankers, casting doubt on the month-old ceasefire that the US has insisted is still in effect.
Washington said its forces disabled two Iranian tankers trying to breach its blockade of Iran’s ports, while US Central Command said it had turned back 58 commercial ships and “disabled” four since the blockade began April 13.
Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy’s regional headquarters, said it arrested 41 people it alleged were part of a group affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard, as investigations continued.
Iran’s parliament national security commission head Ebrahim Azizi issued a warning to Bahrain on social media: “Siding with the US-backed resolution will bring severe consequences.”
Warnings, arrests, and diplomacy
Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior said it arrested 41 people and that “legal proceedings are under way against them,” while not listing specific charges against the individuals.
Iran responded directly to Bahrain with Azizi’s warning that “do not risk closing it on yourselves FOREVER,” as the Strait of Hormuz remained the focal point of the Iran-US crisis.

US President Donald Trump insisted the ceasefire is holding but reiterated threats to resume full-scale bombing if Iran does not accept an agreement to reopen the strait and roll back its nuclear program.
Diplomatic activity continued as Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said his country has been in contact with the US and Iran “day and night” to extend the ceasefire and reach a peace deal.
Russia’s foreign ministry said it, along with Saudi Arabia, was calling for diplomatic efforts to reach a “sustainable, long-term agreement” to end the war, while Putin said taking enriched uranium from Iran would be placed under the control of the IAEA.
What’s at stake next
The dispute over Hormuz access is tied to a broader push for a deal, with Washington awaiting an Iranian response to its latest proposal to end the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, and roll back Tehran’s disputed nuclear program.
“Bahrain’s Interior Ministry says it has arrested dozens of people in the country accused of belonging to a group linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)”
The US Central Command said its blockade remained in force, posting that it redirected 58 commercial vessels and disabled 4 since April 13 to prevent ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports.
Britain’s defence ministry said it was deploying the HMS Dragon to the Middle East to “preposition” in the region, ready to join a UK- and French-led security plan once hostilities end.
Iran’s warning to Bahrain and others framed the strait as a “vital lifeline,” with Azizi warning that siding with the US-backed resolution would bring “severe consequences” and that the Strait of Hormuz should not be risked “FOREVER.”
At the same time, Russia’s proposal to take enriched uranium from Iran to help negotiate a settlement was described by Putin as allowing everyone to see “how much of it there is, and where it is located,” and “all of this would be placed under the control of the IAEA,” the UN nuclear watchdog.
