NGO crackdown in Gaza
A new procedure imposed by Israel threatens to suspend, as of December 31, the activities of many humanitarian organizations in the Palestinian territories, with eight NGOs including Save the Children already having their accreditation renewal refused.
“Children are “increasingly unprotected” as humanitarian groups and rights defenders are forced to scale back their operations in the Palestinian territories, the United Nations has warned”
Le Parisien said Radio France revealed a document from the Israeli Ministry of the Diaspora on Tuesday, December 16 listing eight NGOs barred from renewing their accreditation to operate in the Palestinian territories.

In the Gaza enclave, Le Parisien reported nearly 90% destroyed and still deprived of reconstruction materials, running water, and electricity, with the entire population depending on humanitarian aid to survive.
The same article warned that aid, which is already not arriving in sufficient quantities despite the October 10 agreement between Hamas and the Israeli state, could still be reduced as the countdown set for December 31 to close a new NGO registration procedure began without waiting for New Year’s Eve.
UN warns children unprotected
The UN warned that Palestinian children are “increasingly unprotected” as humanitarian groups and rights defenders are forced to scale back their operations in the Palestinian territories.
Al Jazeera reported the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child said many civil society and aid organisations in Gaza and the West Bank have been labelled “terrorists” by pro-Israel groups or politicians, and that their absence leaves children vulnerable.

The committee said, “Without them, Palestinian children will be even less protected, and violations of their rights risk continuing with impunity,” and urged the international community to hold Israeli authorities accountable for attacks on Palestinian human rights defenders.
Al Jazeera added that the committee said tactics used to delegitimise these human rights groups include “military raids, travel bans, personal financial sanctions, threats of arrest, destruction of records, and even threats of secondary sanctions against partners who support their work”.
Prisons, arrests, and deaths
TRT Français reported that Israel intensified in 2025 campaigns of arrests and repression targeting Palestinians, raising the number of arrests to 7,000 during the year while 32 Palestinian prisoners died in Israeli prisons, according to Palestinian human rights organizations.
“Israel intensified in 2025 the campaigns of arrests and repression targeting Palestinians, raising the number of arrests to 7,000 during the year, while 32 Palestinian prisoners died in Israeli prisons, according to Palestinian human rights organizations on Tuesday”
In a joint report, TRT Français said the Palestinian Prisoners Club, the Addameer organization, and the Prisoners Affairs Commission stated that Israeli authorities have carried out 21,000 arrests since the start of the genocidal war in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
TRT Français said the organizations documented the death of 32 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails in 2025, including 10 from the Gaza Strip, and that the total number of prisoners who have died since the start of the war rises to 100, of whom 83 are said to have died from torture or from lack of medical care.
The report also described practices of “slow execution”, solitary confinement, and severe restrictions on the fundamental rights of detainees, notably in terms of food, healthcare, clothing and hygiene products, as well as the denial of the most elementary needs for children.
