Ceasefire, then more strikes
Israeli attacks across Lebanon killed at least 24 people, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said, including an Israeli attack on the town of al-Saksakieh in the southern Sidon district that killed at least seven people and wounded 15, including three children.
“Israeli attacks across Lebanon have killed at least 24 people despite a United States-brokered ceasefire, now in its third week”
Al Jazeera reported that the attacks came despite a United States-brokered ceasefire that was in its third week, and it said the death toll since Israel’s invasion and bombardment of Lebanon began on March 2 rose to more than 2,750 people, according to the Health Ministry.

The same Al Jazeera report said the Israeli army issued forced displacement orders for several towns as it continued to occupy parts of southern Lebanon and maintained a buffer zone that prevents the return of hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
In a separate tally, CNA.al said Lebanon’s Health Ministry put the number of people killed at at least 39, while it said Israeli strikes have killed more than 120 people across the country in the past week.
CNA.al also said Israeli forces and Hezbollah continued to exchange fire after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between the governments of Israel and Lebanon on April 16.
Claims, counterclaims, talks
Hezbollah said it carried out 26 attacks against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon since Thursday afternoon, including a missile strike on an Israeli tank near the town of Deir Siryan, shelling targeting Israeli forces advancing on Haddatha, and an attack on soldiers gathered in the village of Labbouneh.
Middle East Eye reported that Hezbollah said its operations caused casualties among Israeli troops but did not provide figures, while Lebanese authorities said Israel’s military campaign has now killed more than 2,700 people and injured at least 8,500 others since the escalation began.
Al Jazeera reported that the intensified attacks came a day after the US announced it would mediate a second round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon on May 14 and 15, despite demands by Lebanese authorities that Israeli forces cease strikes before any talks.
Al Jazeera also said the US Department of State described the negotiations in Washington, DC as advancing “a comprehensive peace and security agreement that substantively addresses the core concerns of both countries”.
In Lebanon’s diplomacy, Al Jazeera said Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun received former Ambassador Simon Karam, who is leading the Lebanese delegation for the talks, and provided him with “directives ahead of his trip to Washington,” according to a statement from the Lebanese presidency.
Human toll and pressure points
Lebanon’s Health Ministry figures cited by Sky News Arabia said the ministry confirmed 39 killed and 136 injured during Sunday alone, and it said the total Lebanese toll since the start of Israeli strikes on March 2 after Hezbollah joined the line of war reached 1,461 people killed and 4,430 injured.
“Israel killed 103 rescuers from medical organizations within two months, with the Islamic Health Authority being the most targeted, at 74 personnel”
Sky News Arabia reported that the Lebanese president Joseph Aoun renewed his call for negotiations with Israel so that south Lebanon does not become like Gaza, while it said the Israeli chief of staff Eyal Zamir traveled to southern Lebanon vowing to increase operations against Hezbollah.
In a separate report, Anadolu Ajansı said 39 people were killed and 68 others were wounded since dawn on Wednesday as Israeli airstrikes hit scattered areas across Lebanon, with the toll reaching 13:15 local time according to its tally based on official data.
Anadolu Ajansı also described strikes across multiple areas, including Beirut where it said 12 people were killed and 41 others wounded in three Israeli airstrikes that hit the Basta area and the Zqaq al-Blat area, according to the Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera’s reporting from Tyre said there were “no signs of a ceasefire on the ground” as the death toll from Israel’s “violent strikes” throughout the day “keeps rising,” and it said the Israeli army continued to occupy parts of southern Lebanon.
