Israeli Warplane Strikes Beit Yahoun, Violating Ceasefire During US-Mediated Talks in Washington

The strike came as Lebanese and Israeli officials were set to conclude the fifth round of US-mediated negotiations in Washington on Thursday, Anadolu Ajansı said.

Anadolu Ajansı also said Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed more than 4,100 people and injured over 12,000 others since March 2, citing official Lebanese figures.

France 24 reported that Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said he was working toward a total Israeli withdrawal from the territory, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told troops the war would continue in the security zone in southern Lebanon.

France 24 added that on Sunday at least six people died in new Israeli strikes on the south of the country, including a rescue worker from the Lebanese Red Cross, and that the Red Cross team was “directly targeted by an Israeli drone” while conducting a humanitarian mission.

Ici Beyrouth said Israeli strikes continued on Thursday across several regions of southern Lebanon, with a drone strike hitting the outskirts of Kfarreman and raids reported in Khirbet Selm, Hariss, and Majdal Zoun.

The outlet reported that in Jebchit, a particularly deadly strike killed five people from the same family, and that an interim tally from the Health Ministry's Emergency Operations Center put the death toll from Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon at least fifteen people, including at least five women and two children.

Ici Beyrouth also said the Israeli army launched a new evacuation warning targeting at least 15 localities in South Lebanon, and quoted the Arabic-speaking spokesperson Avichay Adraee urging residents to “evacuate your homes immediately and move away from the villages by at least one kilometer.”

Ici Beyrouth further reported that in Jouaya, Civil Defense teams resumed search operations for missing persons after a strike the day before, with five bodies already recovered from the rubble.

France 24 said Lebanon’s ministry denounced “a new violation of international humanitarian law” and said it would pursue international legal action to ensure those responsible were held to account.

France 24 reported that on Tuesday Lebanese, Israeli and American officials were to meet in Washington for direct talks, an initiative rejected by the pro-Iranian Hezbollah faction.

Anadolu Ajansı said the talks followed the entry into force of a US-Iran memorandum of understanding on June 18, after it was electronically signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

France 24 also said Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam told the Lebanese, “We will work to stop this war and achieve Israeli withdrawal from all of our territory,” on the eve of the anniversary of the start of the civil war (1975-1990).

France 24 reported a new incident involving UN peacekeepers, saying UNIFIL said Israeli soldiers rammed UN peacekeeping vehicles twice with a Merkava tank, causing “significant damage” to one of the vehicles.

Anadolu Ajansı added that further information on casualties or damage from the Beit Yahoun strike was not immediately available, while it framed the attack as occurring during the final day of Washington negotiations.
