Key Takeaways

  • Booking.com lists Nof Canaan studios in Kfar Adumim, marketed as ideal.
  • Settlement presence in the occupied West Bank is contested and tied to war crimes allegations.
  • Listing highlights Yehuda desert views and nearby amenities to attract visitors.

Gaza war, wider legal fight

JusticeInfo.net frames the war on Gaza through a legal lens, linking the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack to a subsequent “war totale” and siege of Gaza described by CPI prosecutor Karim Khan in a request for arrest warrants filed on May 20.

Palestinian media outlets published today, Monday, a video clip showing Israeli settlers beginning bulldozing work to establish a new settler outpost near the village of al-Auja, north of Jericho in the occupied West Bank

In that same account, JusticeInfo.net says Khan asked for warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, along with “trois hauts dirigeants du Hamas.”

JusticeInfo.net also reports that a coalition of four organizations—SOMO, The European Legal Support Center (ELSC), Al-Haq, and The Rights Forum—publicized a complaint against Booking, with the case “rendue publique ce 23 mai 2024.”

The complaint, JusticeInfo.net says, was filed after Oct. 7, 2023 and alleges that Booking “introduit des produits du crime dans le système financier néerlandais,” which the plaintiffs say makes it “coupable de blanchiment d'argent.”

Settler expansion near Jericho

In the occupied West Bank, the Jordan News Agency (Petra) reports that “Extremist Jewish settlers” established a new settlement outpost near the town of Al-Auja, north of Jericho, on Monday, and that Hassan Mleihat said armed settlers brought equipment and carried out bulldozing work.

Petra adds that Israeli occupation forces demolished commercial shops in the central vegetable market known as Al-Hisbeh in Beita, south of Nablus, after raiding the market at dawn and forcing shop owners to remove goods and vegetables.

Petra also says the Palestinian Prisoners Society stated that Israeli occupation forces detained 15 Palestinians.

Al-Jazeera Net, meanwhile, describes Palestinian condemnations and human rights warnings around the same outpost, quoting Hassan Milihat of Al-Bidar saying large numbers of settlers began bulldozing operations aimed at imposing “une nouvelle réalité coloniale.”

Consequences and accountability

Al-Jazeera Net reports that Hamas leader Mahmoud Mardaoui said the outpost near al-Auja represents “une dangereuse escalade” in settlement activity and is part of efforts to impose “new facts on the ground by force.”

In the same account, Mardaoui is quoted urging Palestinians to bolster their presence in areas targeted by settlement expansion and calling on “international and human rights institutions” to hold Israel accountable for “ongoing settlement violations.”

JusticeInfo.net broadens the stakes by saying the coalition argues that “Profiter des crimes de guerre est illégal en vertu du droit pénal néerlandais,” and that the case is aimed at ending Booking’s alleged involvement in “crimes internationaux commis dans les TPO.”

JusticeInfo.net also records Booking’s written response on May 23, stating: “Nous ne sommes pas d'accord avec ces allégations d'activités illégales” and adding that “Aucune loi applicable n'interdit de référencer des hébergements dans les colonies israéliennes de Cisjordanie.”
