Hamas urges U.S. shift
Meshaal told Drop Site News that if Trump wants stability in the Middle East, he should “mettre fin à l’ingérence israélienne dans la politique américaine envers la Palestine,” and he urged the United States to begin “un véritable processus de négociations directes avec le Hamas.”

He argued that the administration prioritizes “les intérêts d’Israël plutôt qu’à ceux des États-Unis,” adding that even Trump supporters “ont fini par se rendre compte qu’Israël était un fardeau pour eux.”
Meshaal also said Palestinians have “le droit de résister” unless the United States intervenes to force Israel to withdraw, and he framed resistance as the only option when “le monde ne vous aide pas.”
U.S. public opinion shifts
A public poll conducted in the United States, as reported by VOI.ID, found that 57% of Americans support the liberation of Palestine and that 57% are in favor of an independent Palestinian state.
The same poll said 65% of Democratic Party participants leaned more toward Palestine while 17% were more sympathetic toward Israel, and it reported that 70% of Republican Party participants were more in favor of Israel with 13% more in favor of Palestine.

VOI.ID also reported that 41% of independent voters are in favor of the Palestinians compared to 30% in favor of Israel, and it said Republicans’ sympathy for Israel fell by 10 points since 2024 to its lowest level since 2004.
In the Mondoweiss account of U.S. politics on Palestine, political consultant Peter Feld said, “I think Cuomo’s attempt to Israelize the election is going to backfire,” linking the shift to tangible political results rather than smear campaigns.
Recognition and legal obligations
A briefing from l'Institut français des relations internationales (IFRI) said that on September 21, 2025, Canada became the 148th country to recognize the Palestinian state.
“One month exactly after the end of the twelve-day war, what lessons do you draw from Israeli strategy toward Iran”
IFRI reported that the measure was coordinated with the United Kingdom and Australia “en face of strong American and Israeli opposition,” and it described the recognition as a tactical measure rather than “un matter of political values.”
The IFRI briefing said the decision “breaks with Canada's historical position” and “entails clear obligations under international law,” while adding that it remains to be seen whether those obligations translate into concrete measures.
In Mondoweiss’s discussion of U.S. politics, it cited a May 2026 NBC News poll stating that “67 percent of Democrats sympathize more with Palestinians than Israelis,” and it also referenced a May 2026 New York Times/Siena poll finding that “just 8% of Democrats strongly support Israel getting more military aid from the U.S.”
