Guardiola explained the decision after the game, saying, "Ho tolto Haaland e Cancelo dopo 45′ perché non stavano benissimo".

He added, "Entrambi prima della partita avevano un po' di febbre".

The same Fanpage report says Guardiola closed the first half on 0-0, a score that was confirmed and did not change in the second half.

It also says Maresca would be the main candidate to replace Pep Guardiola on Manchester City's bench, and that the Italian has been a favorite pupil of Guardiola.

The BBC adds that Maresca was an assistant to Guardiola during City's Treble-winning 2022-23 campaign and played a key role in the club's academy prior to joining the first team.
