
Poll Finds Over Half of US Voters Disapprove of Trump’s Inflation and Economy Handling

Polls sour on Trump
A Financial Times poll conducted from 1 to 5 May by data research firm Focaldata found that more than half of US voters disapprove of President Donald Trump’s handling of inflation and the economy, with nearly 58% expressing strong or slight dissatisfaction.

The same poll found that 55% of respondents believe tariffs are harming the US economy, while only about 25% said trade policy has been beneficial.

On the Iran war, the poll said around 54% of voters were dissatisfied with Trump’s handling, including around one in five Republicans.
CNN’s separate poll, conducted by SSRS, reported that 77% of Americans say Trump’s policies have increased the cost of living in their own community, and it put Trump’s approval rating on the economy at 30%.
CNN also said just 26% of Americans approve of his performance on inflation and 21% approve on gas prices.
Tariffs and Iran drive
MassLive said the FT Poll results show nearly six in 10 respondents (58%) disapproved of Trump’s handling of inflation and the cost of living, while half (50%) disapproved of his handling of the economy.
MassLive reported that more than half (55%) of the poll’s 3,167 registered voter respondents said Trump’s tariffs have hurt the economy, while only 1 in 4 said they had helped.

On Iran, MassLive said more than half of voters disapproved of Trump’s handling of the Iran war, which it described as “now well into its second monthwith no clear resolution in sight.”
CNN reported that roughly two-thirds of Americans say Trump’s policies have worsened economic conditions in the country.
CNN also said a majority of Republicans disapprove of his handling of gas prices.
Midterm prospects at risk
The FT Poll described by 點新聞 said Democrats lead Republicans by eight percentage points among all registered voters in midterm voting intentions, with an even wider lead among independents.

MassLive similarly said Democrats held an 8-point lead over Republicans among registered voters heading into the midterms, with an even wider lead among self-identified independents.
CNN’s poll found registered voters closely split in partisan preference ahead of the midterms, with 45% saying they’d support a Democratic candidate for Congress, 42% a Republican candidate, and 14% neither.
CNN also reported that 55% choose the economy and the cost of living as the most important issue facing the country, more than doubling the share who pick any single other issue.
CNN added that 85% of Americans describe themselves as working-class, middle-class or upper-middle class, and three-quarters say the country’s economic system is unfairly geared toward powerful interests.
