Euronews said the attack involved more than 50 drones, with some recently updated by Russia to increase range and attack power, and that the drones targeted five apartment blocks and the electricity grid.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram that rescue operations would continue until the fate of all people who could be under the rubble was clarified, and he added that a Protestant place of worship was damaged.
Euronews also reported that Zelensky said, "Ogni attacco russo mina la diplomazia, che è ancora in corso," and that the strikes hit the efforts of partners helping end the war.
The same Euronews report said Russia launched 165 drones overnight, with 24 crossing air defenses to hit targets in seven regions, according to Ukraine’s air force.
Negotiations and accusations
As diplomacy continued without a breakthrough, Euronews said Zelensky asked for a faster U.S. commitment to end Russia’s invasion that has lasted nearly four years.
Euronews reported that Zelensky said the next round of talks with the United States and Russia was scheduled for the first February, but that "sarebbe bene se questo incontro potesse essere accelerato".

In a separate live account, Sky News said Zelensky accused Russia of targeting a UN vehicle, adding that the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs vehicle was attacked twice with FPV drones during a humanitarian mission in the city of Kherson.
Sky News reported Zelensky said nine UN staff members were inside the vehicle, and that there were no injuries and mission personnel had been evacuated.
Sky News also quoted Zelensky arguing, "The Russians could not have been unaware of which vehicle they were targeting," as Russian strikes continued across Ukraine.
Drones, casualties, and pressure
Euronews said Russia improved the technology and tactics of its drones, and that the Ukrainian intelligence directorate of the Ministry of Defence had declared earlier in the month that Russia deployed for the first time the new attack drone "Geran-5," powered by a jet.
“This is one of the worst Russian attacks on Kyiv”
Euronews reported that the "Geran-5" could carry a 90-kilogram warhead and had a range of nearly a thousand kilometers, while Ukraine expanded production of interceptor drones and developed its own long-range drones.
Russia’s Defence Ministry, according to Euronews, said its air defenses shot down 19 Ukrainian drones during the night and on Tuesday across several Russian regions.
In a separate analysis from Russia Matters, the May 13, 2026 report card said RM’s analysis of ISW’s data for April 14–May 12, 2026 indicated Russian forces endured a net loss of 45 square miles of Ukraine’s territory.
Russia Matters also said that "Russia launched more than 8,000 drones last month," the highest monthly total on record since the start of the full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022.
