Organisers said the session was immediately red-flagged and emergency services attended the scene but the rider “succumbed to his injuries.”

The fatality was the first at the North West 200 since Malachi Mitchell-Thomas was killed in a Supertwins race in 2016, and it marked the 20th fatality in the event’s 97-year history.
The North West 200 takes place on 8.97 miles of closed public roads on the north coast of Northern Ireland between the towns of Portstewart, Coleraine and Portrush, with Station Corner described as a fast right-hand bend on the road between Portstewart and Coleraine.
Family requests anonymity
The rider was not named because of the wishes of his family, who also gave their approval for the event to continue.
In a statement, North West 200 organisers said, “The family have given their approval for the event to continue but have requested that the rider not be named at this time.”

The BBC reported that Superbike qualifying was the first session of the day and that the remaining sessions in the afternoon did not take place, with qualifying moved to Thursday night to replace the planned opening three races.
TalkSPORT similarly said the fatal accident occurred at Station Corner during the first session on Thursday and that a red flag brought the session to an immediate end following the incident.
Schedule changes and context
With the Superbike qualifying session stopped, the 2026 North West 200 was due to resume on Thursday evening with roads closing again between 4.45pm and 9pm for three races that would be replaced by qualifying sessions.

The Mirror reported that organisers confirmed a revised schedule for the rest of the evening, and said the fatality was the first at the event since Malachi Mitchell-Thomas was killed in a Supertwins race in 2016.
The BBC added that it had not yet been confirmed by race organisers if Saturday’s schedule would contain any additional races on top of the planned six.
