Beijing CEO entourage
The Trump administration plans to invite CEOs from Nvidia, Apple, Exxon, Boeing, and other big companies to accompany President Donald Trump on his trip to China next week, according to Semafor and Reuters.
Reuters reported on May 7, 2026, that the Trump administration plans to invite CEOs from Boeing, Nvidia, Apple, Exxon, Qualcomm, Blackstone, Citigroup and Visa to join the China trip, while Boeing declined to comment and Qualcomm confirmed it had received an invitation.

Semafor said the list also includes executives from Qualcomm, Blackstone, Citigroup, and Visa, and that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, and David Perdue, the US ambassador to China, have been suggesting attendees for the trip.
The planned invitees are tied to a summit in Beijing where Trump is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 14-15, 2026, with the summit expected to focus on trade, Taiwan, export controls, rare earth minerals and the Iran war.
Boeing order hopes
The business outreach centers on Boeing’s China order hopes, with AeroTime saying the potential package could include as many as 500 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and about 100 widebody jets.
AeroTime reported that Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg told Reuters in April, “Without the administration’s support, I don’t think we’ll see any near-term large orders out of China,” and that “It really is something that would be tied to the effort from the administration.”

Semafor said there’s talk of a Chinese order for 500 Boeing MAX planes, as well as sales of American soybeans, but that there’s likely to be less commercial fanfare than on Trump’s previous foreign trips.
Benzinga added that the planned invitees include Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg and that Ortberg said during Boeing’s earnings call that he was “confident” the upcoming summit would include the aircraft manufacturer’s order.
Trade truce and AI stakes
Semafor framed the summit’s main goal as extending a trade truce that Xi Jinping and Trump agreed upon at their October meeting in South Korea, while also noting that the Wall Street Journal reported discussions about launching a dialogue on AI safety.
“TheDonald Trumpadministration is reportedly inviting several tech and business leaders to accompany the President on his trip toBeijing next week”
Semafor quoted Jamieson Greer saying, “I don’t want to think about some big headline with the Chinese where I have really hot rhetoric, I say really tough things, but at the end of the day, do nothing,” and added that Greer said he’d “much rather do what we’re doing now, which is we’re going to talk to the Chinese.”
In a CNBC interview reported by Vietnam.vn, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said, “If me invitaran, sería un gran privilegio y un honor representar a Estados Unidos y acompañar al presidente Trump a China,” linking his potential participation to whether he is invited.
The Economic Times said Huang told CNBC’s Jim Cramer that “we should let the president announce whatever he decides to announce” and that “if invited, it would be a privilege, it would be a great honor to represent the United States,” as expectations swirl about deals during Trump’s visit to Beijing.
