Unknown Shooter Kills Teacher, Another Man in Downtown Oakland Bar; Five Others Wounded

A mass shooting occurred early Saturday in downtown Oakland at a nightclub on 14th Street near Broadway.

Media reports identified the venue as EZ's Lounge, and the Oakland Police Officers Association placed the location at 412 14th Street and the time at about 3:30 a.m.

Seven people were shot in the incident; two were killed and five were injured.

One of the dead was identified as a 25-year-old man, and the other was identified as 33-year-old Latetia Bobo, an eighth-grade English language arts teacher.

Local reporting and colleagues identified one of the victims as Latetia Bobo, 33, who taught eighth-grade English language arts at Caliber Beta Academy, a Caliber Public Schools charter in San Pablo.

Friends and school officials confirmed her identity and noted her role at the school.

Friends, colleagues and community members described Bobo’s contributions outside the classroom, remembering her as a devoted Christian and community leader, a creative artist involved in writing, singing and acting, the founder of a film production company, and someone who led Bible studies while a UCLA student.

Her education community publicly mourned her loss.

Oakland police said homicide detectives are investigating the shooting; officers detained multiple people at the scene and recovered several firearms, but the motive and full circumstances remain unclear.
