U.S. House Approves Resolution Ending Trump’s Iran War Operations in 215-208 Vote
Key Takeaways
- House defeats Lebanon war powers resolution, 324-92, ending attempt to curb Trump.
- Resolution would have required Trump to withdraw U.S. troops from Lebanon.
- Democrats largely split on the measure, with substantial Republican opposition.
Iran vote, War Powers
The U.S. House of Representatives approved a resolution directing President Trump to end military operations against Iran in a Wednesday vote that the World Socialist Web Site described as “a political fraud engineered by the Democratic Party, with the support of a handful of Republicans.”
“Washington — The House rejected a war powers resolution on Thursday to constrain President Trump in Lebanon after Democratic leaders came out against it”
The same article said the House action, adopted by a 215-208 vote, would require Trump to get authorization for the war from Congress, and it noted that Trump vetoed two such resolutions in his first term related to US military operations in Yemen and Iran.
World Socialist Web Site also quoted Rep. Ro Khanna (D-California) saying, “It’s the beginning of the end of the war.”
It further quoted Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-New York) saying, “The passage of my War Powers Resolution is a significant bipartisan rebuke of President Trump’s illegal and costly war in Iran.”
Lebanon measure defeated
In a separate Thursday fight over Lebanon, the Washington Examiner reported that an effort to bar President Donald Trump from aiding Israel’s military campaign in Lebanon led by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) failed 92-324.
The New York Post said the floor vote saw 117 Democrats vote against Tlaib’s resolution and 91 vote in favor, and it reported that the resolution would direct Trump to remove armed forces “from Lebanon” within seven days after its adoption.

The Detroit News reported that Tlaib argued on the floor that the Trump administration is “illegally” participating in and supporting Israel’s war in Lebanon by providing intelligence sharing, coordination and other assistance to Israel, including greenlighting specific operations.
The Hill reported the House rejected the resolution by a 324-92-2 tally and said the vote opposed by 207 Republicans, 117 Democrats, and one independent, Rep. Kevin Kiley (I-Calif.).
Democrats split, next steps
After the Lebanon vote, CBS News reported that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar said in a statement, “Currently, there are no U.S. servicemembers involved in combat operations or hostilities in Lebanon.”
“Democrats splintered over a resolution seeking to block the U”
CBS News added that Democratic leaders said another war powers resolution introduced Wednesday by Tlaib with updated language was “the best legislative vehicle to keep U.S. troops out of Lebanon” and that they would work with her to “build consensus” on it.
The Intercept described the same Thursday outcome as House Democrats voting unanimously on Wednesday against continuing the Iran war without congressional approval, but then helping defeat a similar measure aimed at Israel’s parallel war in Lebanon with the second measure failing 324-92.
In the Intercept’s account, Tlaib had framed the Wednesday vote as a moral choice, saying, “This vote on the Lebanon war powers resolution is a clear moral choice: Do you stand with the Netanyahu government and Trump’s endless war crimes, or do you stand with human life, peace, and justice?”
