Donald Trump Meeting With Iran Ends Without Final Decision On Frozen Funds And Nuclear Terms

U.S. President Donald Trump convened a roughly two-hour meeting in the White House Situation Room, but no final decision was made on a new deal with Iran, a senior US administration official said.

The official said the administration believes the sides are close to signing a memorandum of understanding, with the release of frozen Iranian funds still the foremost issue in dispute.

In a Truth Social statement, Trump demanded that "Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb" and that "The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions."

The New York Times reported that the meeting ended without a decision, while Al Jazeera reported that sources rejected Trump’s claims about a possible agreement as "a mixture of truth and lies".

The Al Jazeera report said the process is designed to move gradually through a memorandum of understanding, with each stage met by a reciprocal step rather than a direct nuclear-file discussion.

Iranian sources cited by Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency dismissed Trump’s claims about a potential agreement as "a mix of truth and lies," saying he distorted the draft deal to present a "fake victory."

Fars said the draft agreement was prepared under a "commitment for commitment" framework and was in the final stages of review in Iran, though no final decision had been made.

The DW report said the White House announced Trump would only accept a deal that "satisfies his red lines," while Al Jazeera Net reported that Iran’s Foreign Ministry said there is "no final agreement yet" with the United States.

Al Jazeera Net reported that Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Tehran’s focus at this stage is on "ending the war" and that it is not currently discussing details of the nuclear file, including uranium enrichment and nuclear materials.

Al Jazeera Net also reported that Iran said its moves are "in accordance with its national interests, not according to what the Americans say we should do."

The New York Times, as cited by Al-Jazeera Net, quoted a Trump administration official saying the meeting lasted about two hours and that the administration was close to reaching an agreement, but that frozen Iranian funds still posed an obstacle.

Al Jazeera Net reported that Axios cited American officials as saying Washington had obtained verbal commitments from Iran regarding nuclear materials and that the agreement would include a ceasefire in Lebanon.

DW reported that Iran’s Foreign Ministry said "arriving at a final agreement depended on ending the American party's attitude based on excessive demands and shifting and contradictory positions," in a call between Abbas Araghchi and Oman Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.

Al Jazeera Net said the Iranian Foreign Ministry added that it wants to verify whether the lifting of the maritime blockade is real or just media statements, and it stressed that the memorandum of understanding "has not yet become final."

In the same reporting, Al Jazeera Net said Iran warned that "hostile ships are forbidden to pass through the strait" and that commercial ships passed "in coordination with our forces," tying the future management of the Strait of Hormuz to Iran and Oman mechanisms.
