Hezbollah Drone Attack Kills Israeli Corporal Eidan Fox in Southern Lebanon
Key Takeaways
- Hezbollah launched a drone attack on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.
- Drones targeted Israeli military assets, including vehicles, near southern Lebanon.
- Video of the attack circulated publicly, highlighted by Hezbollah media.
Fiber-optic drone strikes
A Hezbollah quadcopter loaded with explosives flew over the roofs of houses in southern Lebanon, weaving between ruined buildings and along dirt roads to target an Israeli tank with soldiers nearby.
“The Israeli Defense Forces' radio reported that about 200 hardline Orthodox soldiers are expected to attend a training course and be employed at the factory as drone-assembly technicians”
CNN Arabic said the drone’s first-person view showed two white words at the top reading 'Ready to Detonate.'

The Israeli army said the attack killed Corporal Eidan Fox, 19, and injured others, and Hezbollah then launched more drones at a rescue helicopter that had arrived to evacuate the wounded.
CNN Arabic described the system as a fiber-optic cable linking the drone directly to its operator, with an Israeli military official telling CNN the cable can extend up to 9.3 miles (15 kilometers) or more.
Samuel Bendett, a research fellow at the Center for a New American Security, said: 'This is an effective system, and if used skillfully by a seasoned operator against a force unprepared for such an attack, it could be extremely dangerous.'
Israeli countermeasures
CNN Arabic reported that the Israeli army leaned on technological countermeasures by jamming the signals and frequencies used by operators to control these drones, but said that without a signal the army cannot electronically intervene to control fiber-optic drones.
CNN Arabic quoted an Israeli military official saying: 'Aside from physical barriers such as nets, there is not much that can be done.'

In parallel, Agenzia Nova said the Israeli Defense Forces radio reported that about 200 hardline Orthodox soldiers are expected to attend a training course and be employed at a factory as drone-assembly technicians.
Agenzia Nova added that the IDF is establishing an industrial facility to produce thousands of suicide drones equipped with First-Person View (FPV) cameras per month, with the first group recruited as early as the beginning of June.
Agenzia Nova reported that the Israeli army expects the plant to begin supplying the armed forces with drones in large quantities within two months, with production planned to reach thousands of drones per month and then tens of thousands later.
Targets and regional fallout
Hezbollah released videos describing drone attacks on multiple Israeli military sites, including the Al-Ajal Heights, the Avivim garrison, Ramim, Ramot Natali, and Ma'alim Golani, which Fars News Agency said took place four days ago.
“This video shows footage from the Islamic Resistance operation on 26-05-2026 targeting an Israeli enemy army Hummer vehicle in the city of Bint Jbeil, southern Lebanon, by the Ababil loitering drone”
Fars News Agency also said Hezbollah released footage of a precise hit by a small FPV suicide drone striking an Israeli army bulldozer near the settlement of Deir Siran in southern Lebanon two days ago.
Fars News Agency reported that at 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. today Hezbollah struck two Iron Dome batteries at the Branit garrison with attacking Ababil drones, delivering definitive hits on both.
In the same reporting, Fars News Agency said Israeli media reported sirens in the Kiryat Shmona settlement due to concerns about drone incursions and that Army Radio said that in the last 24 hours there have been about 10 similar drone explosions along the border.
IRNA, citing the Rasad network, said Hezbollah fighters fired mortar shells and launched FPV imaging drones toward Israeli army forces, and that Israeli army helicopters moved in to evacuate the dead and wounded.
