Global Times reported that Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks hit towns including Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Deir Siriane, Taybeh, and Baraachit, and said Israeli forces carried out explosions and set homes on fire in Khiam.

Global Times also said the Israel Defense Forces stated that an Israeli military officer, Captain David Hazutt, was killed and another soldier wounded in southern Lebanon early Sunday, while no casualties were immediately reported in the incidents described by Lebanon’s NNA.

Hezbollah rejects, Rubio signs

At the same time the deal was being signed, Hezbollah condemned it, with Naim Qassem telling Reuters’ account in the BBC report that “This agreement is null and void,” and accusing the Beirut government of undermining Lebanon’s sovereignty.

The BBC also quoted Qassem saying the framework agreement in Washington was “humiliating, shameful, and a surrender of sovereignty,” and said he criticised provisions linking Israel’s withdrawal to the group’s disarmament.

NTD News reported that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at the signing ceremony in Washington, “We are happy to announce a framework agreement between the sovereign government of Lebanon and of the government of Israel,” with U.S. mediation and support.

NTD News added that Lebanese Ambassador Nada Moawad said the trilateral framework was “a first step on the road to restoring Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity,” while Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter said “Iran is out, Hezbollah is out, and the road to peace between Israel and Lebanon is in.”

Security zone and casualties at risk

The framework’s implementation is tied to Israel’s continued presence in an expanded security area, with the BBC reporting that Israeli forces are permitted to remain in an expanded security area in southern Lebanon and that Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz said troops would “prepare for an extended stay in the security zone”.

TRT World said Katz vowed a “great force” response if Iran tries to attack Israel to prevent the implementation of the agreement with Lebanon, and said Israeli forces had been ordered to prepare for an extended stay in the so-called security zone up to 10 kilometres inside Lebanese territory.

Meanwhile, TRT World cited official Lebanese figures saying that since March 2, 2026, Israel has killed 4,243 people, wounded 12,186 others, and displaced more than 1 million people in Lebanon.

Global Times similarly described ongoing Israeli military activities across southern Lebanon on Sunday despite the framework agreement, including drone attacks and explosions in areas such as Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Khiam, with the NNA reporting that no casualties were immediately reported in those incidents.
