Senior Hamas official Basem Naim confirmed the death in a post on X, and Al Jazeera reported that the attack killed at least one more person and wounded nine others, while four other Palestinians were also killed in two other air raids the same day.

Al Jazeera said Hamas condemned the violence as a “blatant violation” of a “ceasefire” agreement signed in October last year, and it described the attacks as “a continuation of the ongoing war of extermination against our people in the Strip”.

The same Al Jazeera report cited Gaza’s Ministry of Health saying at least 837 Palestinians have been killed since the “ceasefire” last year, and it added that some 2,381 others have been wounded.

Al Jazeera also reported that in total at least 72,619 people have been killed and 172,484 wounded since Israel launched its “genocidal war on Gaza in 2023,” with the majority of victims described as children and women.

West Bank raids south of Bethlehem

Israeli enemy forces attacked Palestinian citizens south of Bethlehem in the Solomon's Pools area, located between the town of al-Khader and the village of Artas, according to Saba, and the report said the attack used stun grenades while people were picnicking in the tourist area.

Saba said the Israeli forces attacked on Friday in an attempt to force them to leave the area, citing the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa), and it added that Israeli enemy forces arrested a young man from the town of al-Issawiya, northeast of occupied Jerusalem.

Saba reported that Al-Quds governorate said an Israeli army force stormed al-Issawiya and arrested Yazan Jaber, and it said the Palestinian Prisoners' Media Office reported that Israeli forces arrested Qudsi activist Muhammad Abu al-Hummus inside the courtyards of al-Aqsa Mosque compound and assaulted him at the Mughrabi Gate.

WAFA similarly described the Solomon’s Pools incident, saying Israeli occupation forces on Friday attacked Palestinian citizens in the Solomon’s Pools area south of Bethlehem and that sources told WAFA the forces fired stun grenades at citizens visiting the tourist site to force them to leave.

WAFA’s account placed the location between al-Khader and Artas and identified the date as May 8, 2026, in its dateline for the report.

Arrests and escalation claims

In a separate local report, Shabab al-Quds governorate-related coverage from Saba added that the arrests and assault occurred as Israeli forces stormed al-Issawiya and detained the activist inside al-Aqsa’s courtyards.

Al Jazeera framed the Gaza killings through Hamas officials’ statements, quoting Taher al-Nono, a Hamas official and an aide to al-Hayya, saying, “Shelling and killing only make the negotiator more steadfast in his positions, in defending his people’s rights, and in their free will,” after the death of Azzam Khalil al-Hayya was confirmed.

Al Jazeera also quoted Khalil al-Hayya speaking on Wednesday before his son’s death was confirmed, saying, “Neither the killing of our sons nor the martyrdom of our leaders will intimidate us,” and it tied that statement to the subsequent confirmation of Azzam Khalil al-Hayya’s death.

With Gaza’s Ministry of Health figures cited by Al Jazeera—at least 837 killed since the “ceasefire” last year and 2,381 wounded—Al Jazeera reported that Israel’s security cabinet met earlier this week to discuss renewing the “genocidal war” after Hamas refused to commit to Israel’s demand for full disarmament.
