Israeli strike kills journalist
Hussam Zidan, a former correspondent of Iran's "Al-Alam" TV channel in Syria, was killed as a result of an Israeli attack on the Saida region in southern Lebanon on 28 May 2026, according to Modern.az.
Modern.az said the TV channel released information about the killing and reported that Zidan worked as a correspondent in Al-Alam TV's Syria bureau since 2009.

Modern.az also reported that Zidan covered battles in Deir ez-Zor, Hama, and Aleppo since 2011, and that his son was in intensive care after Israel's attack on the Saida region.
The same Modern.az article said the Israeli army has intensified its attacks on southern Lebanon in recent days and that Lebanese authorities regularly accuse Israel of violating the ceasefire announced in April after negotiations in Washington.
Iranian media condemns
IRIB’s World Service and the head of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Peyman Jebelli, condemned the assassination of Hesam Zidan, a former correspondent of Iran’s al-Alam TV channel in Syria, who was killed in a recent Israeli strike in southern Lebanon.
In a message released on Thursday, Jebelli said that “the martyrdom of Zidan, a courageous warrior of the news field and determined journalist of the resistance media in the criminal aggression of the Zionists against Sidon, once again revealed the ugly face and evil nature of the usurping Israeli regime.”

IRIB’s World Service said that “the martyrdom of this dear colleague following the Israeli regime’s airstrike on the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon once again revealed its criminal nature.”
The PressTV account described Zidan as “a noble and professional journalist who spent years of his life on the front lines” and said he served as a correspondent for the al-Alam Network in Syria since 2009.
Broader regional reporting
While the Modern.az and PressTV reports focused on southern Lebanon, another account tied Hosam Zidan, a journalist for Al-Alam Network, to field reporting in Syria on Monday.
“Hosam Zidan, a journalist for Al-Alam Network, reported from Syria on Monday that the southern front of Syria has undergone multiple field developments due to armed terrorists receiving support from the Zionist regime and Jordan”
شبکه العالم said Hosam Zidan reported that the southern front of Syria underwent multiple field developments due to armed terrorists receiving support from the Zionist regime and Jordan, including clashes near the Kharba Ghazaleh Bridge in the eastern countryside of Daraa.
In that same report, the Syrian Army repelled movements by armed groups seeking to infiltrate one of the army bases, and it said the Syrian Army destroyed terrorists' command headquarters west of the refugee camp.
The report added that operations continued in Daraa with the same intensity and that the Syrian Army destroyed a vehicle and a mortar launcher belonging to the terrorists in the northwest of the Al-Ghar al-Gharbia Bridge in the eastern outskirts of Daraa.
