Eid amid strikes

Israeli drone and artillery attacks continued during Eid al-Adha in Gaza, with Palestine Chronicle reporting that three Palestinians were killed and several others wounded after an Israeli drone struck a Palestinian security checkpoint in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Yunis.

The same report said an earlier Israeli strike targeted a food warehouse and a nearby plot of land in Al-Mawasi, injuring three Palestinians, and witnesses said the attack ignited fires in tents sheltering displaced Palestinians.

In Gaza City, medical sources reported by Palestine Chronicle said one Palestinian was killed and several others wounded in an Israeli drone strike targeting a gathering of civilians behind Imam Al-Shafi’i Mosque in the Zeitoun neighborhood.

Reuters and the Gaza Media Office figures cited by Yeni Safak English said Israeli attacks have killed 910 Palestinians and injured 2,747 since the ceasefire took effect more than seven months ago, even as the holiday continued.

Palestine Chronicle also reported that Israeli attacks have continued almost daily despite the ceasefire agreement that entered into force on October 10, 2025, and said Gaza authorities recorded at least 922 Palestinians killed and 2,786 wounded by Israeli violations of the ceasefire.

Competing casualty counts

Casualty figures varied across outlets for the same period of Eid-related strikes, with Palestine Chronicle citing Gaza authorities saying Israeli violations of the ceasefire have now killed at least 922 Palestinians and wounded 2,786 others.

Yeni Safak English, meanwhile, reported that the Palestinian Health Ministry said the death toll from ceasefire violations had risen to 824 dead and 2,316 injured.

Le Monde reported that on Wednesday, January 21, 11 Palestinians, including 3 journalists and 2 children, were killed by artillery fire and an airstrike from the Israeli army in violation of the ceasefire reached in October 2025.

Le Monde identified the journalists as Anas Ghneim, Mohammed Salah Qashta, and Abdoul Raouf Shaath, and said the Israeli army stated it struck three 'suspects' operating a drone in the area.

The same Le Monde report quoted the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemning the attack as a 'systematic and deliberate policy carried out by the Israeli occupier to intentionally target Palestinian journalists'.

Press, aid, and truce

Beyond battlefield casualties, Le Monde said the three journalists it identified were employed by the Egyptian Rescue Committee and were killed when an airstrike targeted their vehicle while they were filming a camp at Al-Zhara in central Gaza established by Egyptians for displaced people.

Le Monde also reported that the Israeli army said it struck three 'suspects' operating a drone affiliated with Hamas, and that the army added it precisely struck the suspects because of the threat the drone posed to the troops.

In parallel, Al Jazeera Arabic reporting cited by Breakingthenews.net said an Israeli drone strike on a security checkpoint in the Al-Mawasi area near Khan Younis killed three people.

Anadolu Ajansı reported that despite a ceasefire in effect since October 10, 2025, Israeli strikes killed two Palestinians and wounded five others, including an elderly Palestinian man killed when an Israeli drone dropped a bomb on Jabalia.

The Anadolu report also said a US-backed ceasefire has been in effect in Gaza since October 10, ending the two-year Israeli offensive that has killed more than 72,000 people, primarily women and children, and left more than 171,000 wounded since October 2023.
