Israeli Fire Kills One, Wounds Another East of Khan Younis During Gaza Escalation

The Israeli escalation in Gaza continued with one person killed and another wounded by Israeli fire east of the city of Khan Younis, as the Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip reported 877 dead and 2,602 injured since the start of the fragile ceasefire.

The same report said one person was killed and another wounded by an Israeli strike targeting a group of residents near the Bani Suheila Roundabout east of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, as the occupation escalates its violations and breaches of the ceasefire in place since Oct. 11, 2025.

It added that the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza announced on Monday that hospitals had received in the past 24 hours 6 killed and 40 injured due to ongoing Israeli airstrikes on various parts of the Strip.

The article also described early Tuesday airstrikes on displacement sites, saying Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike targeting land near tents housing displaced people in the Mawasi area of the town of al-Qara, north of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

In the same period, the report said the Israeli naval gunboats opened fire toward fishermen in the sea off Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

Al Jazeera Net framed the escalation through Hamas’s accusation that it destroyed the ceasefire agreement, in a June 23, 2026 episode of the program 'Beyond the News' that discussed Israel’s ongoing escalation in the Gaza Strip.

The same Al Jazeera Net page identified the episode’s guests as Israeli affairs expert Dr. Mohanad Mustafa, political analyst Dr. Eyad Al-Qara, and former U.S. State Department official Thomas Warrick, and said it was presented by Maryam Blaalia.

In parallel, عرب 48 reported that the death toll since the ceasefire declaration on Oct. 11 last year had reached 877 dead and 2,602 injured, along with the retrieval of 776 bodies from under the rubble.

It also stated that the total number of dead since the start of the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023 has risen to 72,769, while the number of injured stood at 172,704 across various areas of the Strip.

The عرب 48 report further said the Israeli military has continued for the 221st consecutive day to violate the ceasefire and calm in Gaza, the ceasefire signed by Arab and American mediation on Oct. 10, 2025 in Sharm El-Sheikh.

While the Gaza-focused reporting continued, L'Humanité connected the broader escalation to Israel’s actions toward Iran, arguing that Benjamin Netanyahu aims to bring Tehran to its knees by sending its air forces to bomb Iranian nuclear sites.

L'Humanité said the Israeli attacks killed at least 128 people in Iran, including women and children, and left about 900 others injured, Friday and Saturday, and it added that the Iranian response killed ten in Israel.

It quoted Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying, "We defend ourselves against the aggression. Our defense is entirely legitimate," and asserted, "If the aggression ceases, our response will naturally cease as well," he added.

The same article described the stakes as peace in the Middle East and, more broadly, in the world, saying "peace in the Middle East and, more broadly, in the world, is at stake."
