Key Takeaways
- Palestinian home demolished by Israeli forces between Bir Nabala and Beit Hanina.
- Rights group Al-Baidar calls it the latest measure targeting Palestinian homes in Jerusalem and surroundings.
- UN condemns massive demolitions and settlement expansion in occupied Palestinian territory.
Demolitions across occupied areas
Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian home Wednesday in an area between the towns of Bir Nabala and Beit Hanina, northwest of occupied East Jerusalem, according to the Bedouin rights organization Al-Baidar.
Al-Baidar said the house was razed in the Arab al-Kaabneh area as “the latest measure targeting Palestinian homes in Jerusalem and its surroundings.”

In another incident reported by WAFA, Israeli occupation forces demolished a Palestinian home in the Beit Hanina At-Tahta area north of the occupied West Bank city of Jerusalem, tearing down an approximately 100-square-meter home and displacing a 10-member family including a person with a disability.
The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights warned on Wednesday that Israel is accelerating measures to consolidate annexation of the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and to appropriate Palestinian land by replacing Palestinian communities with settlers, in violation of international law.
Numbers, permits, and displacement
The Anadolu Ajansı report said Israeli authorities carried out 70 demolitions in May, affecting 155 Palestinian structures, including 39 inhabited homes and 99 agricultural structures, according to figures from the Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission.
It also said Israel usually demolishes Palestinian homes on the grounds that they were built on land classified as Area C, where under the 1995 Oslo II Accord the area is under Israeli civil, administrative and security control and makes up about 60% of the occupied West Bank.

In the AP-linked report, Ir Amim said there have been at least 116 demolitions so far this year and that 260 homes and other structures were demolished in 2025, a 70% increase from three years earlier.
The UN News report added that nine houses and two other structures were demolished in the Al Bustan area in the Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem, displacing at least 31 Palestinians, and that 100 other buildings housing 1,500 Palestinians are currently under immediate threat of demolition.
Stakes and legal pressure
The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights said these actions run counter to the conclusions of the International Court of Justice, which in July last year found that Israel's ongoing presence in the occupied Palestinian territory was illegal and must cease as soon as possible.

UN News quoted OHCHR’s warning that Israel is accelerating measures to consolidate annexation and appropriate Palestinian land, including East Jerusalem, while also pointing to demolitions carried out for the first time in a nature reserve in Area B in Bethlehem.
Amnesty International described the broader pattern as forced displacement of Palestinian people by Israel, saying that since October 2023 forced displacements have surged in the occupied West Bank notably in East Jerusalem and in the Gaza Strip.
In a personal account included by Amnesty International, Zuheir Rajabi said, “My little corner of paradise. My house in Batn Al Hawa, though modest and old, holds a precious place in my heart,” as he described fighting to keep his home after an eviction order for Batn Al Hawa within six months.
