West Bank raids and closures
Israeli forces killed five Palestinians in the occupied West Bank as they escalated punitive measures, according to Middle East Eye.
“Israeli forces kill five Palestinians in West Bank as it escalates punitive measures The Israeli army killed five Palestinians and closed several military barriers in the occupied West Bank on Thursday”
The outlet said troops raided the town of Tammun, located south of Tubas, surrounding a house and killing five men inside after a firefight, “according to local media.”

Middle East Eye also reported that Israeli forces closed several military barriers after a shooting attack on Wednesday that killed one settler and seriously wounded another near Salfit.
It added that the closures coincided with settler attacks on main roads, as well as assaults on Palestinian vehicles and property.
The same report described how, following the Wednesday shooting, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for the destruction of Palestinian villages of Bruqin and Kafr ad-Dik, located near Salfit in the northern West Bank.
Middle East Eye quoted Smotrich’s post on the X platform saying, “Just as we destroyed Rafah, Khan Yunis, and Gaza, we must destroy the terrorist nests in Judea and Samaria,” using the Jewish term for the West Bank.
The outlet further reported that Smotrich wrote, “Bruqin and Kafr ad-Dik should look like Shuja'iyya and Tel al-Sultan,” linking the West Bank villages to areas in Gaza.
Escalation timeline and siege
Multiple reports described a sustained pattern of raids, road closures, and siege-like restrictions in the Salfit area and around Nablus.
Middle East Eye said the latest shooting attack was the fourth in the Salfit area in recent months and that the Israeli army had yet to locate the perpetrator, “whom it claims is the same individual responsible for previous attacks.”

It reported that from Wednesday, Israel closed all barriers surrounding Ramallah, Nablus, and Salfit as a punitive measure, citing security concerns, leaving “Hundreds of vehicles…stuck at these checkpoints for hours.”
The outlet added that some educational institutions announced closures due to the sudden restrictions.
In Bruqin, Middle East Eye described how the town’s four entrances were “completely sealed off since Wednesday evening,” leaving “Around 5,200 Palestinians…trapped in the town.”
The report also said the Israeli army stormed Bruqin with “hundreds of soldiers” after the shooting attack, conducting raids on all the homes.
It quoted Bruqin mayor Faed Sabra saying, “The officer quoted Smotrich's tweet to me verbatim when he threatened to turn the town’s life upside down.”
Deaths, arrests, and testimonies
The raids described in the West Bank reporting included specific deaths, detentions, and accounts of violence against civilians.

Yaffa News Network said “Nael Sami Abdul Rahman Samara, 36, was killed this afternoon, Saturday,” after being shot by Israeli forces during a raid on Bruqin, west of Salfit in the occupied West Bank.
It reported that “the Palestinian Ministry of Health” said the General Authority for Civil Affairs informed them of Samara’s death after he was “seriously wounded by live bullets in the Al-Balata area of the town.”
Yaffa News Network added that “Israeli forces arrested him while he was still injured, and later confirmed his martyrdom.”
The same outlet said Israeli forces deployed “additional military reinforcements” and fired “sound bombs and tear gas while detaining dozens of residents.”
In another incident, WAFA reported that Israeli occupation forces raided the town of Bidya, west of Salfit, on Friday, “blowing up the doors of several commercial shops and causing material damage,” and WAFA added that “no detentions reported.”
In Bethlehem Governorate, Al-Masdar News said Israeli occupation forces arrested four Palestinian civilians from various areas, including the brothers “Ghaith and Laith Hikmat Dayriya,” and it said forces seized a house in Deir Istiya northwest of Salfit Governorate and turned it into a military barracks “for 48 hours.”
Reactions and calls for retaliation
Beyond the battlefield actions, the reporting also captured reactions from Palestinian officials and journalists, alongside statements attributed to Israeli far-right figures.
Middle East Eye said calls had spread urging settlers to attack homes in retaliation for the shooting, and it quoted Bruqin mayor Faed Sabra describing the pattern of assaults: “We are constantly exposed to settler attacks. A few weeks ago, they smashed the windows of homes in the village and attempted to set them on fire.”

Sabra added, “They also vandalised vehicles,” and he said the town is “surrounded by the settlements of Barkan and Ariel, which are the launchpads for ongoing attacks against us,” according to Middle East Eye.
The outlet also quoted journalist Mohammed Abu Thabet, saying, “Warnings are circulating among Palestinians not to use the main roads except in cases of extreme necessity due to settler attacks and racist calls.”
Abu Thabet told Middle East Eye that settlers gathered near the Za'tara checkpoint, south of Nablus, and attacked Palestinian vehicles with stones, and he described similar attacks near the Eli settlement between Nablus and Ramallah and near the Shilo settlement north of Ramallah.
Middle East Eye reported that Israeli media reported a statement by far-right minister Itamar Ben Gvir demanding that Netanyahu permanently reinstate the barriers across the West Bank.
Meanwhile, the Yaffa News Network account of Bruqin described the Israeli military assault continuing “for the third consecutive day,” with “daily raids and arrests,” which provides a backdrop to the retaliation calls described by Middle East Eye.
Broader Gaza war and West Bank stakes
Several sources tied the West Bank raids to the wider war on Gaza and to longer-running Israeli measures in the occupied territory.
“Top News Axios: Iran Delivers Response to U”
Middle East Eye explicitly framed the punitive measures in the West Bank as escalating alongside Gaza destruction by quoting Smotrich’s comparison to “Rafah, Khan Yunis, and Gaza.”

It also described how the closures and raids were accompanied by settler attacks and assaults on Palestinian vehicles and property, while the town of Bruqin remained sealed off with “Around 5,200 Palestinians” trapped.
Roya News described an “Israeli” military operation in Salfit, saying troops launched a major operation in the city of Salfit early Tuesday, carrying out “widespread house raids, assaults on civilians, and road closures,” and it said the operation was ongoing.
Roya News reported that the deployment included “low-flying helicopters over the city” and that troops transformed residential buildings into temporary military posts, conducted random house searches, destroyed property, and detained dozens of residents for questioning.
It added that since the start of the “Israeli’ war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, forces have intensified attacks in the West Bank,” and it cited official Palestinian data indicating that these operations have killed “at least 1,114 Palestinians,” injured “approximately 11,500,” and resulted in the detention of “around 22,000” across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Taken together, the reporting portrays a West Bank environment of raids, sealed entrances, and detentions that is repeatedly linked to the Gaza war timeline beginning on October 7, 2023.
