Israeli Naval Forces Kill Palestinian Fisherman After Gaza Blockade Line Breach

Israeli naval forces opened fire on a Palestinian boat off the coast of the Gaza Strip after the vessel crossed Israel’s blockade line and refused an order to turn back, and the wounded Palestinian on board later died in an Israeli hospital.

The Times of Israël says the Israeli navy also arrested six other Palestinians after three other ships attempted to breach the blockade line, while the Gaza fishermen union and a Hamas security official said the people attempting to cross were fishermen.

In a separate Gaza truce violation described by Middle East Eye, Israeli forces killed three Palestinians over the past 24 hours, including two police officers, and the General Directorate of Police said an Israeli air strike targeted the director of the Khan Younis police investigations department, Wissam Abdel Hadi, and Sergeant Fadi Heikal.

Middle East Eye added that the attack occurred in the al-Amal neighbourhood in southern Gaza and that Hamas said the targeting of Gaza’s police force is "a continuation of the enemy's crimes and terrorism against our Palestinian people."

Middle East Eye reported that Hamas urged pressure to halt Israel’s attacks on Palestinians, framing the strikes on police as part of a broader effort to obstruct recovery and restore normalcy in the Gaza Strip.

The same report said the General Directorate of Police announced that an Israeli air strike killed Wissam Abdel Hadi and Sergeant Fadi Heikal, and it described additional deaths and injuries across Gaza during the past 24 hours.

In the account from Al-Jazeera Net, Israeli occupation forces’ gunfire killed three Palestinians and injured others on Monday, while the Gaza Strip Health Ministry said hospitals received 3 new martyrs and 16 injured in the last 24 hours.

Al-Jazeera Net also quoted the Gaza fishermen union’s president Zakaria Bakr saying the occupation detained fishermen "while practicing their trade within the limited maritime area allowed for fishing, under tight restrictions imposed by the occupying forces on fishing."

As the ceasefire period continues, Middle East Eye said that since the ceasefire came into effect at least 854 Palestinians have been killed and over 2,540 others have been wounded, and it added that Israeli forces killed more than 72,740 Palestinians since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023.

The Jazeera Net report similarly said the death toll from Israeli violations of the ceasefire since it came into effect rose to 854 martyrs and 2,453 injured, and it stated that 770 bodies were recovered from rubble and streets.

In parallel, Jazeera Net described Israeli naval forces arresting six Palestinian fishermen, including three brothers, after warships intercepted their boat near the coast of the town of Al-Zawaida in central Gaza and took them to an unknown destination.

In a separate account from جريدة الرياض, the Peace Council was said to be nearing a declaration of the collapse of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, while the ministry of Health in Gaza reported that the toll of martyrs and injuries since October 7, 2023 has risen to 72,740 martyrs and 172,555 wounded, and it said "a number of victims remain under rubble and in the streets" where ambulance and civil defense crews cannot reach them.
