Tyre struck despite truce

A fresh wave of Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed at least 17 people and wounded many others on Tuesday, despite a ceasefire violation a day after hostilities between Israel and Iran were halted.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said an Israeli strike on a public housing area in the city of Tyre killed at least nine people and wounded 28 others, and it also said one person was killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted his farm in the town of Adshit in the Nabatieh district.

The same Anadolu Ajansı report said Israeli drones launched an attack at dawn on the Al-Marj neighborhood in the town of Kfar Rumman, killing two others, and it described displacement in Tyre as evacuation orders issued by the Israeli army triggered a new wave of displacement.

An Al Jazeera account said Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon killed at least 17 people and forced thousands to flee, just hours after Donald Trump insisted a peace deal with Iran was imminent.

Al Jazeera added that the Israeli military issued another forced displacement order for Tyre on Tuesday, telling the entire city—including the Christian quarter—to leave immediately before launching its deadly attack.

Trump, Iran, and Hezbollah

Al Jazeera reported that Trump said he was in the “final throes of what will be a very, very good deal,” and it quoted his claim that the Strait of Hormuz would open “immediately upon signing,” which he said could be in two or three days.

In the same Al Jazeera account, the Lebanese Ministry of Health said the overall death toll from the Israeli offensive has risen to 3,666 since March 2, with a further 11,321 injured, while Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said Israel has carried out nearly 3,500 air attacks, 407 demolitions, and six “razing” operations since April 16.

Anadolu Ajansı said Tehran has warned of a “crushing” response if Israeli attacks in Lebanon continue, and it also reported that Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon have killed more than 3,660 people, injured over 11,300 others, and displaced more than 1.6 million since March 2, according to Lebanese officials.

The Anadolu Ajansı report also said Lebanese media reported that Israeli drones were flying at low altitude over Beirut and its suburbs, as Civil Defense teams worked to extract and provide first aid after a drone strike on a vehicle when a second strike hit.

In the BBC account, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said Israeli airstrikes on south Lebanon killed 17 people on Monday, and it said the death toll since Thursday has risen to 110, with two of the dead and 14 of the wounded being children.

Health workers and displacement

Le Monde reported that at least 32 doctors, paramedics and nurses have been killed since the start of the new war between Israel and Hezbollah, and it said the Islamic Health Authority was particularly targeted.

Ali Jichi, a rescuer, described the moment he saw the strike, saying, "I saw the missile coming from the sea. Its explosion lit up the area."

Le Monde said the strike destroyed a four-story building that belonged to the Islamic Health Authority, and it reported that twelve doctors, paramedics and nurses were killed, with one person injured, and that one victim was Hassan Jichi, 55.

The same Le Monde article quoted Ali Jichi saying, "Israel did not respect and will never respect international humanitarian law," and it added that he said, "But we will continue our social mission."

Meanwhile, Anadolu Ajansı said the new attacks and evacuation orders issued by the Israeli army triggered a new wave of displacement in several areas in Tyre, and it reported that shelters had reached full capacity due to the influx of displaced residents, with Civil Defense teams evacuating elderly residents from Tyre.
