Strikes, deaths, and wounded
Israeli strikes killed six people across the Palestinian territory on Wednesday, Gaza health officials said, and wounded several others including the son of Hamas's chief negotiator.
“A senior officer in Gaza’s Interior Ministry has been killed in an Israeli air strike, according to Palestinian medics and Hamas sources”
Gaza City's Al-Ahli hospital reported receiving "three dead and a number of wounded following an Israeli drone strike on the Zeitoun neighbourhood, southeast of Gaza City".

A separate strike on the Al-Daraj neighbourhood of Gaza City killed one person and wounded 10 others, including Khalil al-Hayya’s son, Azzam Khalil al-Hayya, who was described as "seriously wounded in the Israeli airstrike" by a security source.
The same reporting said violence persisted despite an October ceasefire, with the ceasefire largely halting the Gaza war that began after Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
Hamas-run police hit
Palestinian medics and Hamas sources said an Israeli air strike killed Naseem al-Kalazani, a colonel in the Hamas-run police force, when it targeted his vehicle near the al-Mawasi area in western Khan Younis.
The attack wounded at least 17 other people, medics said, and Kalazani led the anti-narcotics force in Khan Younis, according to Hamas sources.

In a separate account of the same day’s violence, Al Jazeera reported that a senior officer in Gaza’s Interior Ministry was killed in an Israeli air strike, and that the medics said he was killed in a targeted strike on his vehicle near al-Mawasi.
Al Jazeera also said Israel intensified its attacks, killing at least three Palestinians near the Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City, bringing the day’s death toll to at least four, while there was no immediate comment from Israel.
Ceasefire toll and aid pressure
Even with a United States-brokered “ceasefire” in effect since October, Gaza violence persisted, and local medics said at least 830 Palestinians have been killed during the ceasefire period.
“Israeli strikes kill two Palestinians in Gaza, medics say CAIRO/GAZA, May 5 (Reuters) - Israeli strikes killed at least two Palestinians and wounded several others in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, health officials said”
Gaza health officials also said more than 72,500 Palestinians have been killed since the Gaza war started in October 2023, while Israel said militants have killed four of its soldiers over the same period.
Hamas accused Israeli authorities of “disregarding” demands from mediators and international organizations to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said, "The Israeli occupation allowed only 200 trucks to enter Gaza on Monday".
The same reporting said the ceasefire agreement stipulated the entry of 600 trucks daily, and Bassam Zaqout warned that shortages of medical supplies and Israeli restrictions on crossings were threatening the lives of thousands of wounded and sick people, including cancer patients.
