Manchester United Agree £37m Deal To Sign Atalanta Midfielder Éderson

Manchester United have agreed to sign the Atalanta midfielder Éderson for a fee which could rise to about £37m as they work to bolster the squad for their return to the Champions League.

The Guardian says United are aiming to provide Michael Carrick with the depth to cope with four competitions, with the 26-year-old in line to be the first summer arrival.

BBC Sport reports the deal is close to completion with an initial fee of £35m plus £3m in add-ons for the 26-year-old, who has 12 months left on his contract.

United’s director of football Jason Wilcox has closely monitored the Brazilian’s progress in Serie A, and the BBC notes senior United officials played down speculation and said there is still no agreement for Éderson.

The BBC also links the move to Casemiro’s exit, saying United are prioritising strengthening central midfield this summer after the exit of Casemiro and uncertainty over Manuel Ugarte’s future.

The Guardian reports Éderson has spent four seasons at Atalanta, playing in the Champions League in the last two and winning the Europa League in 2024, and it says he has not been picked for the World Cup.
