Qalibaf frames resistance
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said on Saturday that the Iranian nation’s “70-day resistance has accelerated” a “transformation unseen in a century,” and he added that “The world stands at the cusp of a new order.”
Qalibaf, quoting Chinese President Xi Jinping, said “the transformation unseen in a century is accelerating across the globe,” and concluded that “The future belongs to the Global South.”

Press TV said the statement came in the context of Iran’s response to “US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic on February 28,” describing “daily missile and drone operations” targeting “Israeli-occupied territories” and “US military bases and assets across the region.”
Press TV also said Iran retaliated by closing the Strait of Hormuz, which it said “resulted in a significant increase in oil prices and their by-products.”
Ceasefire and negotiations
Press TV said that on April 8, “forty days into the war,” a Pakistan-brokered temporary ceasefire between Iran and the US took effect.
The same article said negotiations ensued in Islamabad but “stopped short of an agreement amid Washington’s maximalist demands and insistence on unreasonable positions.”

Al Jazeera net’s framework article described Israel and the United States launching a war against Iran on February 28, saying it targeted “hundreds of security, military, and sovereign sites” and included “assassinating a large number of regime leaders, headed by the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.”
Al Jazeera net said the war operated within two intersecting frameworks, including a geopolitical framework tied to Israel’s aim to “change the Middle East” and a framework connected to international relations tied to U.S. President Donald Trump’s goal of reshaping the international order to align with “Make America Great Again.”
Global balance and oil
A West Asian outlet quoted Professor Robert Pape saying, “Will Iran join China, Russia, and the United States as a fourth major power on the world stage?” and argued that “Iran’s resilience in the face of the American-Israeli war now changes the global balance of power.”
The same interview quote said, “Iran is stronger than it was forty days ago, as it now controls 20% of the world’s oil,” and added that “Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz” could “fundamentally change the global system at the expense of the United States.”
Press TV had earlier said Iran retaliated against strikes by closing the Strait of Hormuz, which it said “resulted in a significant increase in oil prices and their by-products.”
Press TV also tied its account of Iran’s operations to the February 28 trigger, stating that in response to “US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic on February 28,” Iranian Armed Forces launched “daily missile and drone operations” across the region.
