Trump Attacks Pope Leo XIV Over Iran War, Calls Him Weak and Liberal

President Trump launched an extraordinary broadside against Pope Leo XIV, saying he didn’t think the pontiff is doing a very good job.

Trump wrote on social media, Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy.

He repeated that sentiment in comments to reporters, saying, We don’t like a pope who says it’s OK to have a nuclear weapon.

Trump also accused the pope of playing with a country that wants an armed nuclear weapon, referring to Iran.

The president’s attack extended beyond the war in Iran, referencing the ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Archbishop Paul S. Coakley issued a statement saying he was disheartened by Trump’s comments.
