CNN Arabic also said Trump repeatedly warned the United States could strike Iran's power plants, bridges, and other infrastructure if Tehran fails to reach an agreement or reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

CNN Arabic further reported that over the weekend Trump said Iran had until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Eastern Time, to reach an agreement.

The same CNN Arabic account said Iran rejected the proposal and called for a permanent end to the war, according to official Iranian media.

Kagan: likely US defeat

Middle East Eye said neocon Robert Kagan warned Washington is heading towards “total defeat” in its war on Iran, calling it damage that “can neither be repaired nor ignored”.

Middle East Eye quoted Kagan writing in The Atlantic: “There will be no return to the status quo ante, no ultimate American triumph that will undo or overcome the harm done,”.

The report said Kagan argued control over the Strait of Hormuz has shifted the balance of power, with “Iran emerg[ing] as the key player in the region and one of the key players in the world,”.

Middle East Eye also quoted Kagan warning that “Defeat for the United States, therefore, is not only possible but likely,” and said Trump has limited options to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

In a separate interview with PBS, Middle East Eye said Kagan argued the war could end in a “very disastrous way for Israel” because leverage shifts toward Iran and its supporters.

Sanctions relief and costs

Al Jazeera net reported Iranian researcher and academic Trita Parsi said Iran has not been defeated and that its strategic victory should be translated into 'a new political system that is acceptable and not a source of dispute,'.

Al Jazeera net said Parsi asserted Iran urgently needs sanctions relief because it has borne costs that could reach up to one trillion dollars.

The report said Parsi, a guest on 'The Interview', argued Iran’s political system did not collapse or stall, and that it was ready while it needs to negotiate first with the United States and later with the Gulf Cooperation Council states.

Al Jazeera net also said Parsi predicted a highly sensitive phase between Iran and GCC states after the war, and noted that several GCC members played an important role in trying to prevent the war.

Mehr News Agency, meanwhile, quoted Rear Admiral Sayyari saying the US defeat of war against Iran will go down in the history, and said Iran’s defeat of US in the war will go down in the history.
