Trump Vows US Response After Iran Downs Apache Near Strait of Hormuz

DefenseScoop reported that U.S. Central Command spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins said an autonomous Corsair maritime drone picked up two pilots and transported them to another location on the water where they were then hoisted up to a helicopter for further transport.

The DefenseScoop account said the rescue was carried out off the coast of Oman, and it described the Corsair as a 24-foot autonomous surface vessel designed for rugged, long-duration missions.

In a separate account, the Muslim Network TV report said US Central Command reported the AH-64 Apache went down near the coast of Oman and that early statements indicated the personnel were rescued using a US Navy autonomous surface vessel deployed in the area.

BBC reported that Trump accused Iran of shooting down a U.S. military helicopter while it was on patrol over the Strait of Hormuz and said the United States “must” respond to what he called the “attack.”

In the same BBC account, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that “Foreign forces deployed near our lands are always at risk of becoming victims of human error, accidents, or of falling under crossfire.”
