Broadview Six indictment implodes
In Chicago, Illinois, federal prosecutors pursued the “Broadview Six” case after an altercation at the Broadview ICE detention center in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois between federal agents and Democratic activist protesters resulted in six people being charged for allegedly “physically hinder[ing] and imped[ing] a federal agent’s vehicle.”

Mediaite reported that a grand juror told the Trump DOJ prosecutor that the case was a “crock of sh*t,” and that the judge ordered the release of grand jury transcripts after finding improprieties in the proceedings.
CNN said the Justice Department tried again after a week when the grand jury had already voted against the indictment, and that the case was presented to the same grand jury three weeks in a row in October.
ABC7 Chicago reported that U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros acknowledged having spoken to the October grand jury that would go on to indict the group later that day, and that his office framed the acknowledgement in a five-page “special report.”
Transcript sparks calls for resignation
CNN described newly released transcripts in which a grand juror asked prosecutors, “Do you have unlimited tries?” after the grand jury had already voted against the indictment, and said the prosecutor excused the grand juror after the juror said, “I heard this case like last week and I thought it was a crock of shit then and I still think it is.”
ABC7 Chicago said Boutros appeared before the grand jury on Oct. 23, 2025 “to remind the grand jurors of their obligations under the law and the role they play in our constitutional form of government,” according to the special report.
ABC7 Chicago also quoted Boutros telling the grand jurors, “If there's anyone here who is struggling with a certain type of cases, such as the immigration cases or other cases where they do not believe that they can set aside their personal - their personal emotions,” and said no one raised a hand.
The outlet further reported that Illinois’ U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth jointly called on Boutros to resign, saying his office “has been riddled with chaos, deep internal dysfunction, and alleged misconduct.”
Aftermath and broader fallout
ABC7 Chicago said the indictment alleged the group conspired to “interrupt, hinder, and impede” a federal immigration agent from the “discharge of his official duties,” and that each defendant was also charged with misdemeanor simple assault of a federal officer.

CNN reported that the US attorney’s office dropped the charges last month shortly after Judge April Perry read the previously secret grand jury transcripts, and that the fallout would continue following the release of the transcripts.
ABC7 Chicago said the case began unraveling in March when prosecutors dropped all charges against two of the defendants, and that defense attorneys pushed to see unredacted transcripts from the grand jury room.
CNN added that the situation raised questions about possible involvement of Justice Department political leadership, and quoted a lower-level prosecutor telling the grand jury, “I do not want to touch politics with a ten-foot pole,” and that “we’re putting blinders on to politics.”
