Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of the NewsCord website, mobile app and browser extension, including the optional NewsCord Plus subscription. By using NewsCord you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1

Acceptance of these terms

By accessing or using NewsCord, including any paid subscription, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. These terms form a binding agreement between you and NewsCord. If you are using NewsCord on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to accept these terms for it.

2

Who we are

NewsCord is operated by Nima Akram (sole trader, United Kingdom), trading as NewsCord (“NewsCord”, “we”, “us”). You can reach us at [email protected].

3

The NewsCord service

NewsCord aggregates and analyses news coverage and lets you take action by sending complaints and letters to regulators, outlets, representatives and other recipients. The website at newscord.org is free to use. The mobile app offers the same tools, with full access provided through the optional NewsCord Plus subscription described below.

We may add, change, suspend or remove features at any time. We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free.

4

Your account

Some features require an account. You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity under your account. Provide accurate information and keep it up to date. You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent in your country, to create an account.

5

NewsCord Plus subscription

What it is. NewsCord Plus is an auto-renewing monthly subscription that unlocks the NewsCord mobile app and helps fund our reporting and infrastructure. The website remains free.

Price. The price is shown to you at the point of purchase and is charged in your local currency (for example, £5 in the UK or $5 in the US). Prices may vary by region and over time; the current price is always displayed before you confirm.

Billing and auto-renewal. Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account on confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically for successive one-month periods at the then-current price, and your account is charged within 24 hours before the end of the current period, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.

Free trial. If an introductory free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you purchase a subscription, where applicable.

Cancellation. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.

Refunds. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google, and refunds are handled by them under their own policies, not by NewsCord. To request a refund, contact Apple or Google through your account. To the extent the law gives you a statutory right to cancel or a refund, that right is unaffected by this clause.

Payment processing. We never receive or store your card or bank details. We use RevenueCat to validate store receipts and manage entitlements; it receives only an anonymous identifier and your subscription status. See our Privacy Policy for detail.

For purchases made through the Apple App Store, the Apple standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, except where it conflicts with mandatory local law.

6

Acceptable use

You agree not to use NewsCord to:

  • break any applicable law or infringe anyone’s rights;
  • submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or knowingly false;
  • impersonate another person, or submit a campaign in someone else’s name without their authority;
  • attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access to the service or its systems; or
  • use automated means to submit campaigns at scale or to abuse the regulators, representatives and outlets we contact.

We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms.

7

Action campaigns

When you file an action campaign, the message is sent in your name to the recipients you select. You are responsible for the content you submit and confirm it is accurate and your own genuine view. You can preview the wording before sending where the campaign offers that, and you receive a copy of what was sent. Once a message has been delivered to a third party, we cannot recall it; to access, correct or withdraw it you must use that recipient’s own channels. How your data flows is set out in our Privacy Policy.

8

Intellectual property

The NewsCord name, logo, software, original written content and the look and feel of the service are owned by NewsCord or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the service for its intended purpose. You may not copy, resell, or create derivative works from the service except as the law allows. News headlines, article excerpts and source material remain the property of their respective owners and are used for analysis, commentary and reporting.

9

Disclaimers

NewsCord is provided “as is” and “as available”. Our news analysis is provided for information and commentary and is not professional, legal or financial advice. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, or that any analysis is complete or accurate. Nothing in these terms excludes any warranty or right that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

10

Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any liability that cannot be limited by law. Subject to that, NewsCord will not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or £50.

11

Changes to the service and these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent change. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to tell you, for example in the app or by email to opted-in users. Continuing to use NewsCord after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree, stop using the service and cancel any subscription.

12

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK you may also bring proceedings in your home nation. Mandatory consumer-protection rights in your country of residence are unaffected.
