01Where we come from

NewsCord grew out of the Tech for Palestine coalition in the months after October 2023 and incorporated in the United Kingdom in February 2024. We were founded to answer the egregious state of mainstream reporting on Gaza: coverage that deleted the actor, softened the act and omitted the toll while a genocide, as the UN Commission of Inquiry has since concluded, unfolded in front of the world’s press.

That failure was never confined to one story. The same techniques recur wherever the oppressed and the disempowered appear in the news: their stories misrepresented, their realities twisted.

01

The passive construction that hides who did what.

02

The verb chosen to shrink an act the body copy describes plainly.

03

The headline that contradicts the outlet’s own reporting beneath it.

04

The sourcing that launders one side’s claims into neutral record.

These are not accidents of deadline pressure

Theyaremeasurable,repeatablepatterns,andwemeasurethem.

02What we do

We exist to:

01

Prove bias, not allege it.

We build curated, repeatable metrics for every news topic we cover, so a claim of bias always arrives with its evidence attached and its counter-arguments stated in full.

02

Set the standard for media monitoring.

Outlet by outlet, topic by topic, we publish an objective record of how newsrooms perform, and we show our working.

03

Turn outrage into procedure.

We give anyone the means to act in seconds: evidenced complaints to IPSO, Ofcom and the BBC, and precise letters to editors, MPs and foreign offices, each one sourced, specific and within the rules of the body that receives it.

04

Strengthen the journalism we want more of.

We build services for newsrooms and independent journalists, and toolkits that let NGOs and civil society campaign with maximum accuracy and impact.

05

Raise the floor for everyone.

Fair, accurate, accountable journalism across the board, whoever the story is about.

03The standard

We are open about where we stand. A publisher is free to hold a perspective; it is never free to distort the facts. So we bind ourselves to the discipline we demand.

Rule 01

Every figure traces to a named primary source before publication.

Rule 02

Contested characterisations are attributed to the institutions that make them.

Rule 03

We argue documented effect, never asserted motive.

Rule 04

Our complaints name outlets and institutions, not individuals.

Rule 05

We state realistic remedies and claim only the outcomes we achieve.

We ask the press to meet a standard.
We meet it first.
