Rabb wins 3rd District
In Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District Democratic primary, state Rep. Chris Rabb won the nomination to succeed retiring Rep. Dwight Evans, with the race described as a contest in the “bluest” district stretching across Philadelphia.
“The victory of Chris Rabb in a US House of Representatives primary in Pennsylvania represents a boost to Democrats’ progressive flank, a movement that has come under heavy pressure in recent years”
Al Jazeera said Rabb carried about 44 percent of the vote, compared with about 30 percent for State Senator Sharif Street and 24 percent for paediatric surgeon Ala Stanford, and it framed the win as a boost to Democrats’ progressive flank.

FOX 29 Philadelphia reported that four Democrats competed for the nomination in the 3rd District, and it said Rabb was projected to win the Democratic primary for the U.S. House seat representing Pennsylvania’s 3rd District.
PoliticsPA said that as of 10:30 PM, Rabb had amassed nearly 44 percent of the vote to outdistance Sharif Street and Dr. Ala Stanford, who came in at 29.4 and 24.4 percent, respectively.
Roll Call reported that Rabb won the primary in the 3rd District and that the Philadelphia-based district is one of the most Democratic-leaning in the country, with Harris having carried it by 77 points in 2024.
Israel, genocide, and splits
Al Jazeera reported that Rabb broke from opponents on US policy towards Israel, pledging to join 12 current members of Congress in signing a resolution recognising the Nakba and urging his competitors to describe Israel’s actions in Gaza as a “genocide”.
In the same Al Jazeera account, it quoted federation president Kalpona Akter?—no, it quoted instead that Stanford appeared to say that using the term “genocide” was “harmful,” while Street was criticised for a lack of clarity on the issue.

Al Jazeera also quoted cochairs Kendra Brooks and Nicolas O’Rourke of the Pennsylvania Working Families Party saying, “The question in this race was not whether we would elect a Democrat, but what kind of Democrat we would choose,” and it added that “The people of Philadelphia made their choice clear: bold, working-class leadership, and an end to the broken status quo.”
NBC News said Democrats’ four Democratic congressional primaries in battleground Pennsylvania would loom large in November, noting that the race for control of the House takes center stage in the midterm elections.
NBC News also reported that the results of the primaries had already drawn “a combined $50 million in advertising dollars spent on or committed to these races, according to the ad-tracking firm AdImpact.”
November stakes and party control
Beyond the 3rd District, Pennsylvania’s primaries set matchups for November’s midterms, with FOX 29 Philadelphia saying the state held its primary election on Tuesday as voters decided who will represent their parties in the November midterms.
“PHILADELPHIA - Pennsylvania held its primary election on Tuesday as voters decided who will represent their parties in the November midterms”
PoliticsPA said Shapiro and Garrity won party nominations for governor, and it reported that all 203 seats in the Pennsylvania State House are up for election in November.
The Guardian reported that Cook Political Report ranks Pennsylvania’s 10th and seventh districts among the most competitive House seats nationwide, and it said Democrats are zeroing in on four districts they view as essential pickup opportunities to retake the House.
Spotlight PA said Democrats hope, with Gov. Josh Shapiro’s help, to capture the state’s four swing districts and ultimately a U.S. House majority, and it quoted Shapiro urging the crowd at his primary election rally to help the party’s candidates win control of the Legislature for the first time in more than three decades.
NBC News said Democrats need to net three seats to take back control of the House, and it tied the Pennsylvania primaries to the broader fight over the chamber in November.
