Saudi Gazette reported that Hadi died at the age of 81 in Riyadh, and said a family source described his death as occurring this morning at a hospital in Riyadh following a sudden health crisis in recent days.
Saudi Gazette also said Hadi served as the internationally recognized president of Yemen for a decade before transferring his presidential powers in 2022 to the eight-member Presidential Leadership Council, chaired by Rashad Al-Alimi.
Condolences and funeral
Saudi Arabia’s Royal Court announced condolences after Hadi’s death, saying King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud received the news of the former president’s passing with profound grief.
The Royal Court statement said King Salman and the Crown Prince conveyed their deepest sympathies to Hadi’s family and to the leadership, government, and people of Yemen, and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased.

Al-Jazeera Net said Hadi’s funeral was held today, Friday, in the Saudi capital Riyadh, where he died and was laid to rest in Al-Awd Cemetery.
Al-Jazeera Net also said Gulf, Arab, Western countries and Yemeni factions offered condolences on Hadi’s death, while the Houthis had not yet issued an official stance toward him.
Legacy and political stakes
Yemen Monitor said Hadi was the second president of the Republic of Yemen since unification and served as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces starting in 2012, framing his death as the end of a political era tied to Yemen’s “most complex and turbulent periods.”
“Former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi has died at the age of 80 in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh, Yemeni state television confirmed on Thursday”
Al-Jazeera Net described Hadi’s decade of rule as among the most complex and dangerous periods in the country’s modern history, and said the hardest challenge facing Hadi was the reorganization of the armed forces and security.
Al-Jazeera Net said Hadi announced on April 7, 2022 that he had transferred all his powers irrevocably to the Presidential Leadership Council, which is composed of a president and seven members.
It added that the Houthis viewed Hadi as an adversary who prompted the Arab coalition to confront them, hindering their ability to complete control over the entire country.
