Two Hezbollah sources speaking on condition of anonymity told the agency that fighters shot down an Israeli helicopter during the repulsion operation.

A Lebanese security source told Al Jazeera that the Israeli helicopters intended to carry out a landing operation inside Lebanese territory.

Lebanese security sources said violent clashes erupted early Monday in eastern Lebanon after the attempted air landing near the town of Nabi Sheet, adjacent to the Lebanese–Syrian border.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported clashes in the Sha'ra–Jaroud Nabi Sheet area where Israeli forces, which it said advanced via an air landing, were trying to penetrate the highlands.

Hezbollah said resistance fighters observed the infiltration of about 15 helicopters from the Syrian direction at 00:10 early Monday that flew over Jenta, Yahfoun, Nabi Sheet, Arsal and Ras Baalbek before some landed infantry in the Sarghaya plain, and Hezbollah said its members "repelled the helicopters and the infiltrating force with appropriate weapons" and that clashes were ongoing at the time of the statement.

Last Friday the Israeli army carried out a landing operation in Nabi Sheet in the Bekaa.

An Al Jazeera correspondent reported that exposing the Israeli force prompted the Israeli Air Force to provide heavy fire cover through about 40 strikes to secure the soldiers' withdrawal.
