Iran Warns Israel of Strong Response After Strikes in Southern Lebanon Nabatieh Governorate

Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned Israel that it would deliver a “strong response” if attacks in southern Lebanon persist, accusing Israeli forces of violating the ceasefire 84 times in just two days.

The warning came as Israeli strikes continued in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh governorate, where Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) said multiple strikes killed at least four people.

Al Jazeera reported that Tuesday’s killing took place as separate drone attacks targeted two vehicles in Mayfadoun and a third vehicle in Shoukin, despite a ceasefire and a recent understanding between the United States and Iran to end the war on all fronts.

In the same reporting, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Israel’s continued occupation of southern Lebanon would violate the deal, adding that “without the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territories they occupied during this war, the war has not fully come to an end.”

Middle East Eye said Iran’s unified command of Iran’s army accused Israel of violating the ceasefire in southern Lebanon 84 times since the US-Iran agreement was announced on Sunday, framing the alleged violations as continued military escalation despite efforts to reduce regional tensions.

The outlet quoted the Iranian statement warning that Israel “should expect a harsh response” if it “continues to commit crimes and massacre the oppressed people of Lebanon”.

Israel National News reported that the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters issued a statement claiming Israel violated the ceasefire in southern Lebanon “84 times over the past two days,” and threatened a harsh response if Israel did not stop its actions.

In parallel, Ynetnews described IDF activity in southern Lebanon, saying the Israeli Air Force intercepted several rockets launched by Hezbollah toward the area where IDF forces were operating and later struck and dismantled the launcher from which some of the rockets were fired.

Al Jazeera said the memorandum of understanding’s final text had not yet been made public, but it reported that the prime minister of Pakistan, acting as one of the mediators, said on Monday the agreement envisaged an immediate halt to military operations “on all fronts, including Lebanon”.

The same Al Jazeera report said Iran’s top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, in a phone conversation with Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, called for the US to compel Israel to end its war on Lebanon, stop home demolitions, and withdraw from occupied Lebanese territory.

Al Jazeera also reported that Hezbollah said it had received assurances from Iran that Tehran would demand a withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon in its next phase of talks with the US, while Reuters was cited for that claim.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera put the human toll from Israeli attacks in Lebanon since March 2 at “at least 3,826 people have been killed in Lebanon and 11,851 wounded, according to the country’s health ministry,” as Nabatieh residents returned to check their properties.
