Iran’s Tasnim News Agency said unresolved disputes and continued American “obstruction” over key clauses could derail the talks, with one major sticking point reportedly remaining Iran’s blocked financial assets and sanctions-related demands.

A senior Iranian advisor warned Tehran could break any US naval blockade and even withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty if military attacks resume, as tensions rise over the Strait of Hormuz.

In parallel, News18 reported that Mohsen Rezaei said Tehran will “break the naval blockade” and may withdraw from the NPT if the “enemy” attacks the Strait of Hormuz.

The Hill said Centcom redirected more than 100 commercial vessels as part of the ongoing naval blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz, calling the move a “milestone” as tensions persist.

Talks, mediators, and claims

As diplomacy continues alongside military pressure, The Times of India said Iran’s Tasnim News Agency blamed American “obstruction” over key clauses and pointed to blocked financial assets and sanctions-related demands as a sticking point.

News18 said Trump claimed a peace-related agreement with Iran and that military adviser to Supreme Leader Mohsen Rezaei threatened NPT withdrawal if the Strait of Hormuz is attacked, while Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said “We will have to wait and see where the situation ends in the next three or four days.”

The Independent Arabic reported that Iran said there is no plan to hold meetings with the American side, citing Ismail Qaani’s X post that “no meeting between Iran and the United States has been planned,” with Pakistani officials conveying messages between delegations.

That same report said White House spokesperson Karine LeVitt told Fox News that Steve Wettkoff and Jared Kushner would meet Abbas Araghchi in Islamabad to hold direct talks, adding that the meeting comes at Tehran’s request.

PressTV said Mohsen Rezaei warned, “If you enter the Persian Gulf, first of all, we will give a tough, painful and unprecedented response and break the naval blockade,” and added that Tehran “may withdraw from the NPT.”

Blockade costs and escalation

The Hill said the blockade began in April at President Trump’s direction and that more than 15,000 U.S. troops have turned around 100 ships, disabled four, and permitted 26 humanitarian aid vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Hill also reported that the Defense Department in early May estimated the blockade has cost Iran about $4.8 billion in oil revenue, while more than 200 aircraft and warships supported the operation.

In the same reporting, The Hill said the blockade is enforced “against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas,” including the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, and described how back-and-forth opening and closing of the strait caused energy and gas prices to soar.

PressTV said Iran shut down the strait to its enemies and their allies after “unprovoked US-Israeli aggression,” and added that Iranian authorities began enforcing much stricter controls last month following Trump’s announcement of a blockade targeting Iranian vessels and ports.

The Times of India said the latest developments are fuelling fears that diplomacy may again be sliding toward confrontation, after a senior Iranian advisor warned Tehran could break any US naval blockade and even withdraw from the NPT if military attacks resume.
