IRGC strikes U.S. base

Tensions between Tehran and Washington in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman entered what the Afghan Voice Agency described as an unprecedented phase with a direct military clash and an immediate response from the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said that at dawn on Thursday it targeted a point on the outskirts of Bandar Abbas International Airport using aerial projectiles, and that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps activated defense systems and intelligence observations after the attack.

The IRGC announced that at 4:50 AM Thursday the main U.S. military air base in the region, used as the origin and transmitter of the projectiles into Iranian territory, was targeted by precise and large-scale missile attacks that caused heavy damage to its military infrastructure.

In the same IRGC statement, the agency quoted the warning that "This lightning operation is only a serious and tangible warning to the aggressor enemy" and that "no aggression will go unpunished."

Warnings and peace draft

AnewZ said Iranian-made Yassin missiles were spotted mounted on Armenian Air Force fighter aircraft during Armenia's latest military parade on Thursday (28 May), while also describing the IRGC as carrying out a retaliatory attack on a U.S. airbase in the early hours of Thursday.

AnewZ reported that the airbase was used to target a ground control station on the outskirts of Bandar Abbas Airport in Hormuzgan Province, and it quoted the IRGC statement: “Following the dawn attack by the U.S. aggressor army on a point on the outskirts of Bandar Abbas Airport with aerial projectiles, the U.S. air base from which the aggression originated was targeted at 4:50 am (local time).”

AnewZ also said local Iranian news media, quoting the state-owned broadcaster IRIB, released unofficial highlights of an interim peace deal on Wednesday that included a framework of a memorandum of understanding based on Iran’s 14-point proposal to end the war.

In that IRIB report as relayed by AnewZ, the draft said the U.S. committed to lifting the naval blockade of Iran’s southern ports in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, and it added that the draft included no reference to the nuclear dispute because Iran said its civilian nuclear programme is not on the agenda of indirect talks at this time.

Other commanders warn

PressTV reported that Deputy Army Commander for Coordination, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari made remarks on Saturday warning that "any aggression against the country's territory will be met with a response even more forceful than before."

PressTV said Sayyari underlined that Iran’s military forces, including all branches of the Army, were equipped with the most advanced defense systems and equipment outfitted with modern technologies.

The same PressTV account framed the remarks as echoing American officials’ verification that Iran retains significant firepower despite the latest bout of unprovoked aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime that targeted the country between February 28 and April 7.

PressTV also cited a CBS News interview from the previous month in which officials said the Islamic Republic continues to maintain substantial military capabilities, and it referenced a Washington Post report that Pete Hegseth’s public claims of "American success" might not fully reflect the reality on the ground.
