Nasr 24 across Gulf
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced a new wave of missile and drone strikes targeting US positions in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan early Tuesday morning, July 21, with the IRGC describing the operation as “Nasr 24.”
In Bahrain, the IRGC reported it had targeted US air defence and radar systems in the Al-Muharraq and Riffa regions and claimed it “destroyed” Amazon’s primary data centre infrastructure in Bahrain using cruise missiles.
In Jordan, the IRGC announced an attack on a US military base, claiming it hit the facility’s missile defence radar system and destroyed a US F-15 fighter jet, while neither US nor Jordanian officials confirmed the claim.
In Kuwait, the IRGC and the Iranian Army claimed they struck several US military bases, with the Army saying it targeted HIMARS missile systems deployed at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait during the 18th stage of Operation “Sa’eqeh” (Thunderbolt).
Claims, denials, and strikes
The IRGC said its Aerospace Force carried out the 24th wave of “Operation Nasr 2,” claiming it “destroyed a missile defence radar system and destroyed an F-15 aircraft inside the relevant shelter” in Jordan, as carried by Iran’s state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
In the same set of announcements, the IRGC claimed it attacked a compound housing US military personnel in Jordan’s Rukban region, alleging that “several American soldiers were killed,” while the IRGC also accused US officials of downplaying casualties.
The Iranian claims came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) said, “Today at 4 p.m. ET, U.S. forces began a new round of strikes against Iran at the Commander in Chief’s direction,” describing the strikes as designed to degrade Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Washington Post reported the Pentagon said Monday that nearly 100 U.S. troops have been injured in the war with Iran over the last two weeks, and NewsNation said the United States retaliated to the killing of two American service members by launching more airstrikes on Iran on Sunday.
Regional fallout and injuries
Bahrain issued a statement condemning the Islamic Republic’s attacks on Kuwait and Jordan, expressing solidarity with both nations and reaffirming its support for their measures to safeguard national security and sovereignty.
In Jordan, the IRGC claimed its aerospace forces struck a U.S. troop complex at Rukban, killing a number of American terrorist troops, while the IRGC also said the war US war secretary had portrayed the dead as heroes and claimed a toll “far below the real figure.”
In the United States’ account, CENTCOM said it completed the ninth consecutive evening of strikes against Iran just after 10 p.m. ET and later began a new wave of strikes at 7 p.m. ET, aiming to degrade Iranian military capabilities used to target commercial vessels and civilian mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The conflict’s immediate human impact was also reflected in DoD Injury Analysis System data cited by Al-Najah News, which said 427 injuries among U.S. service members since the start of the 'Epic Rage' operation, while naming First Lieutenant Tyler Fehan and Private Isabella Gonzalez among those killed in the latest clashes.
