Israel Shells Deir Seryan, Detonates Homes in Taybe and Haddatha

Heavy Israeli artillery shelling targeted the outskirts of the southern town of Deir Seryan on Monday, and Israeli forces also detonated residential buildings in the border villages of Taybe and Haddatha.

The Naharnet report said the shelling came despite a trilateral framework agreement signed by Lebanon and Israel under U.S. sponsorship on Friday to pave the way for peace and disarm Iran-backed Hezbollah.

On Sunday, the Israeli army said it destroyed an extensive tunnel in Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon and carried out strikes including on the southern city of Nabatieh.

In response to the attacks on Sunday, Hezbollah said it "reiterates that what the enemy has done is a blatant violation of the ceasefire to which it has adhered until now" and added that it is monitoring and tracking those violations.

In southern Lebanon, Ici Beyrouth reported that an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a vehicle in the Ain al-Mazrab region near Tebnine, causing damage.

The same report said that later in the night an Israeli force supported by three military vehicles, including a bulldozer, advanced from a newly built position on Jabal el-Bat on the outskirts of Aitaroun.

Ici Beyrouth added that a UNIFIL patrol entered the Zaqaq region during the operation, prompting the Israeli vehicles to switch off their headlights.

Earlier in the morning, the outlet reported that Israeli artillery bombarded Jabal Sadana south of Chebaa, and it also described an explosion on the outskirts of Ayta al-Chaab with the nature of the explosion remaining uncertain.

Naharnet framed the Monday shelling and detonations as part of a broader pattern that Hezbollah said violates the ceasefire it has adhered to until now, while it also said it reserves its right to defend its homeland and its people.

Al Jazeera reported that Israeli leaders have openly boasted of plans to maintain and expand their military occupation beyond the Golan Heights, and it cited Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz saying Israel intended to keep its troops in the sector it occupies in Syria "for an indefinite period" as it has done in Lebanon and Gaza.

Al Jazeera also described how Israel intensified military operations in Deraa and Quneitra in recent weeks and moved troops into the United Nations-monitored buffer zone separating Israeli and Syrian forces on the Golan Heights.

It further reported that the Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned Israeli attacks on Quneitra and Deraa as "a flagrant violation of international law" and called on the international community to put an end to the attacks.
