Israeli Forces Advance Into Wadi Al Raqqad In Daraa, Open Fire On Agricultural Land

Israeli occupation forces advanced into the outskirts of the Wadi Al Raqqad area in the western countryside of Daraa Governorate in southern Syria on Sunday, moving in with several military vehicles including two tanks and opening fire toward nearby agricultural land before withdrawing.

SANA said the incursion penetrated the Wadi al-Raqad area adjacent to the Jamla village, with a force of three tanks and two military vehicles, one equipped with a heavy machine gun of the type DShK, carrying out field movements near Jamla before briefly establishing itself.

Qatar news agency QNA reported that no injuries were reported during the Sunday advance into Wadi Al Raqqad.

SANA also said that last Wednesday Israeli occupation forces had previously penetrated the Wadi al-Raqad road near the town of Jamla in the Yarmouk Basin area in the western countryside of Daraa.

The QNA dispatch added that Israel continues to violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through military incursions into southern Syria and repeated actions affecting civilians, including raids, arrests, land-clearing operations and shelling.

On Saturday morning, Israeli forces opened fire on farmers in the Wadi Ma’ariya area in the Yarmouk Basin in the western countryside of Daraa Governorate during an Israeli patrol incursion into Syrian territory, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights as cited by وكالة سبأ.

The Syrian Observatory said the shooting caused fear and panic among civilians, prompting farmers to abandon their lands and flee the area for fear of being injured, with no casualties reported.

Al-Jazeera Net said Israeli forces penetrated the Yarmouk Basin area in the western countryside of Daraa Governorate and opened fire toward farmers there, while there were no reports from health authorities in Daraa about casualties.

Al-Jazeera Net also said the incursion was the second into the village itself in the past few days, after an Israeli military force stormed residential neighborhoods in Ma'ria on Thursday, June 11, and set up a military checkpoint on its outskirts.

The Al-Jazeera Net account added that the center 'Sijil', which tracks Israeli military operations in Syria, documented 15 incidents during May, including firing toward civilians and agricultural lands, firing flares, and continuing excavations and dredging.

Al-Jazeera Net said Syria consistently condemns Israeli attacks on its lands and regards them as a violation of the ceasefire agreement signed with Syria in 1974, adding that Israel announced the ceasefire had collapsed and that it occupied the demilitarized zone after the fall of the Assad regime.

The same Al-Jazeera Net report said that since the fall of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024 until the end of May, the center documented the killing of 36 Syrian civilians by Israeli fire, and recorded 214 people detained, of whom 46 remain in Israeli prisons.

QNA said Syria maintains that all measures taken by the occupation forces on Syrian territory are null and void and carry no legal effect under international law, and that Syria reiterated its call for the international community to assume its responsibilities, put an end to these violations, and compel Israel to withdraw fully from southern Syria.

SANA likewise said Syria continues to demand the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation from its lands, stressing that all measures it takes in southern Syria are void and have no legal effect under international law.

Al-Jazeera Net reported that the Syrian permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ibrahim Albi, renewed his country’s engagement in security talks with Israel via U.S. mediation during a Security Council session last Wednesday, titled 'Advancing political solutions in the Middle East: mediation and dialogue for lasting peace'.
