Norris wins in Hungary
Lando Norris won the Hungarian Grand Prix for McLaren on Sunday, finishing ahead of Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli after Oscar Piastri retired with a gearbox issue 14 laps from the end at the Hungaroring.

Norris had started from pole position and, after losing the lead to Piastri on the opening lap, retook it after the second round of pit stops when Piastri was delayed by a collision with back-marker Carlos Sainz’s Williams.
Verstappen finished second after a virtual safety car triggered by Piastri’s DNF, with Norris and the Ferrari drivers pitting while Verstappen and Antonelli stayed out.
Antonelli, who extended his overall lead to 50 points, started seventh after a three-place grid penalty and said, "It was really hard to overtake so we had to do something with strategy."
Norris described the win as a return to form, saying, "My pace today was probably some of the best pace I’ve ever had."
Penalties shape the race
Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton finished fourth on track but dropped to fifth behind teammate Charles Leclerc after a five-second post-race penalty for speeding in the pitlane, while Verstappen and Antonelli held their positions after not pitting during the virtual safety car.
Hamilton’s penalty was tied to the pitlane speed rule, with Sky Sports noting he was penalized "for speeding in the pit lane" and that he could not overtake Verstappen or Antonelli.
The race also featured an early scramble inside the top order, with Sky Sports describing an early Oscar Piastri squabble and stating that Piastri made contact when lapping Williams’ Carlos Sainz.
Norris’s win came after McLaren’s internal battle, as Sky Sports said Norris was told he could not pit first before the second round of pit stops and McLaren pitted Piastri just before half distance.
Verstappen framed his second-place finish as a calculated move, telling reporters, "I saw the opportunity. It was my only one. I just went for it."
Antonelli leads into break
With the Hungarian Grand Prix ending the summer break build-up, Kimi Antonelli entered the pause with a championship advantage, as GMA Network said he extended his overall lead to 50 points.

The standings after the race showed Antonelli leading with 219 points, while Hamilton was second on 169 points and George Russell third on 160 points, before the next scheduled racing weekend.
Sky TG24 reported that the Formula 1 calendar would return on the weekend of 23 August in Olanda, after a month of pause, with Norris’s victory coming after a gearbox failure for Piastri.
The race outcome also left McLaren with its first win of the season, and Sky TG24 said, "Per Norris è la 12esima vittoria in un Gp."
For the championship fight, the same Sky TG24 report emphasized that Antonelli’s podium result came with Ferrari confined to the bottom of the podium, while Hamilton was penalized again for pitlane speed.
