Meta bets on agentic commerce
Mark Zuckerberg told investors that Meta would begin deploying its new models and products over the next few months and that he expected the company to "repoussions constamment les limites de l'IA tout au long de l'année à venir" as it pushes its AI agenda after dropping its metaverse project.
“Meta's Chief Data Officer Says Agentic Commerce is the "Next Tier of Business" Alex Schultz says stablecoins are assumed inside Meta”
In parallel, Meta’s strategy for 2026 centers on agentic commerce, with Zuckerberg describing the arrival of "de nouveaux outils d'achat personnalisés" designed to help users find products from Meta’s catalogue.

CoinDesk Spotlight’s Alex Schultz framed agentic commerce as an inevitability rather than a product category, telling Sam Ewen, "We think it might be the next tier of business for our entire company."
Schultz said Meta is already building toward that future by developing business agents for all businesses, adding that it has "over a million weekly active businesses with Meta agents" and using a WhatsApp example to show how such agents could scale from low-stakes tasks to broader commerce.
The same CoinDesk conversation tied the agentic-commerce vision to payments rails, with Schultz saying stablecoins are assumed inside Meta and that "Stablecoins are a big part of the solution."
A CEO digital twin
Meta’s AI push is also described as an internal governance experiment: Digital Business Africa says the company is creating a digital twin of Mark Zuckerberg that is built on a massive database drawn from his internal content, including emails, notes, reports, and strategic documents.
The same report says the system reproduces Zuckerberg’s reasoning, tone, and decision-making logic and that employees can interact with the digital twin directly without going through traditional hierarchical channels.
It adds that the project remains in development and that control mechanisms must frame the agent’s decision-making capabilities to limit operational and legal risks, while the question of accountability in case of error or a contestable decision remains open.
Digital Business Africa also says Meta plans to generalize AI agents to all staff, with each employee receiving an assistant capable of exploiting internal databases in real time.
The report places the effort amid a restructuring that could cut about 20% of the workforce, or nearly 15,800 jobs, as Meta shifts after slowing its metaverse ambitions and makes artificial intelligence the main lever of innovation.
Stablecoins, partnerships, and verification
Schultz’s CoinDesk Spotlight remarks connect agentic commerce to a broader payments strategy that avoids issuing a proprietary currency, saying Meta’s approach is partnership and that "The history of the company is that we tend to be a partnership company on these things."
“In an in-depth conversation on CoinDesk Spotlight, Schultz outlined a vision of Meta's future in which agentic commerce is not a product category but an inevitable reality”
He also described the regulatory context since Facebook’s Libra announcement, noting that Meta’s attempt to launch its own global stablecoin triggered scrutiny from Congress and U.S. regulators over concerns including financial stability, privacy, and the company’s potential influence over the global payments system.
In that same conversation, Schultz said Meta is pursuing a less controversial route by integrating regulated third-party stablecoins into its platforms rather than issuing one itself, and he argued that the harder problem is getting the rest of the world there.
On decentralization and proof-of-humanity systems, Schultz said, "Decentralization, especially if we can take verification outside of our system — my God, it would be useful for us," describing a desire to plug into a decentralized verification service.
Finally, he identified verification as the central challenge for an agentic economy, writing that "For you to transact with an agent, you need to know it represents the business it says it represents."
