Netanyahu rejects U.S. roadmap

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a 15-point Gaza plan tied to U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, saying Israel rejects the 15-point document and that Israeli forces will not withdraw until Hamas is “genuinely disarmed.”

Netanyahu told his cabinet that “Israel rejects the 15-point document,” and he added that “the military will not make any withdrawal until Hamas is truly disarmed.”

The plan Trump announced at the end of July described a phased approach in which Israeli forces would withdraw as disarmament is completed, with an International Stabilization Force and a new Palestinian police force responsible for security.

The dispute leaves the Peace Council’s fate “more uncertain,” with a Peace Council official telling Reuters that despite Netanyahu’s rejection, “the plan is still in effect and continues to progress.”

U.S. says not bothered

A senior American official told Axios’ correspondent that the White House “was not bothered” by Netanyahu’s rejection of the Gaza plan, framing it as part of Israel’s election cycle.

The same account said the official added, “We understand Netanyahu’s political needs… and we have no problem with that as long as he continues doing what we ask of him,” especially regarding curbing attacks on Gaza.

In Israel, Netanyahu’s position was echoed by the IDF’s shift toward requiring approval for strikes beyond the yellow line, with a senior officer in Gaza saying “Beyond the yellow line, deep in the area, we do not act.”

Meanwhile, Hamas said it remains committed to the roadmap reached by mediators and the Board of Peace, with Bassem Naim telling CBS News that “Our acceptance of the roadmap, despite all the challenges” reflected national responsibility.

Al Jazeera reported that the Board of Peace proposed a 15-point roadmap on July 30, stating that Hamas disarm in exchange for a full Israeli military withdrawal and a transition of governance to an independent Palestinian National Committee supported by an international security force.

Al Jazeera also said Netanyahu’s rejection raised uncertainty for Palestinians in Gaza City, where Hani Mahmoud reported that most people “expected” Israel to reject the proposal and that the main concern was “greater uncertainty.”

In parallel, the Peace Council official in the Kompas.id account said discussions with Israel continue, and that the framework is designed so “each stage only moves forward after the necessary commitments have been fulfilled.”
