Olivia and Liam Repeat
Olivia and Liam topped the list of most popular baby names in the United States for 2025 for a seventh consecutive year, according to the Social Security Administration’s annual release based on Social Security card applications submitted at birth.

The Associated Press reported that the agency’s lists date back to 1880 and that, just in time for Mother’s Day, it released the most popular names from applications for Social Security cards.
For girls, Charlotte climbed to second place, ending Emma’s six-year run as runner-up, while Ava slipped out of the Top 10 and was replaced by Eliana.
For boys, the top four names—Liam, Noah, Oliver and Theodore—held their places, with Henry taking the fifth spot in the AP’s top 10 list.
The AP also said the fastest-rising baby names included Kasai, meaning “fire” in Japanese and Swahili, which surged 1,108 spots into the top 1,000 for the first time.

The Social Security Administration’s list also highlighted that Klarity led all risers for girls, up 1,396 spots into the top 1,000, as the Associated Press described the fastest-rising names growing in popularity.
In a separate report, MLive said the list was revealed Friday by the Social Security Administration and that Olivia was the top girls’ name while Liam topped the boys’ list for the seventh consecutive year.
MLive added that SSA says the list is compiled through Social Security card applications submitted at birth and called it “the nation’s authoritative source for baby naming trends.”
MLive further reported that the SSA released the most popular names list each year ahead of the Mother’s Day holiday and quoted Social Security Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano saying, “Happy Mother’s Day to all the exceptional mothers who inspire us and guide future generations.”
The Associated Press said the SSA’s latest data show that 3.6 million babies were born in the U.S. in 2025, a slight decrease from 3.61 million the year before.

The Associated Press said the agency annually tracks the names given to girls and boys in each state, with lists dating back to 1880, and it framed the release as showing how names can rise and fall in popularity.

For context on the scale of the SSA’s tracking, Forbes said that for 2025, 3,593,747 applications were recorded for babies born in the U.S., including 1,835,823 boys and 1,757,924 girls.
Forbes also said that the data is compiled by the Social Security Administration based on Social Security card applications and that national name data are limited to births in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
In the AP’s framing, the complete, searchable list of baby names is on the Social Security website, and the SSA releases the list each year in connection with Mother’s Day.
