The Middle East Eye said the 36-year-old was held in administrative detention for eight months, and that he was released from Israeli prison in January before learning two days later that he had suffered a severe brain hemorrhage due to prison conditions and medical neglect.

The Anadolu Ajansı report said the “shocking” photo showed part of his brain skull removed as a result of surgeries he underwent while in Israeli detention, and that he lost significant weight and appeared pale and almost unrecognizable.
The Anadolu Ajansı account also said the rights group stated Israeli forces detained Bani Mufleh from the town of Beita in Nablus in June 2025 without charge under Israel’s administrative detention policy and released him in January 2026.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said Bani Mufleh’s case was “not an isolated case,” but pointed to “thousands of cases” involving violations inside Israeli prisons, including torture and starvation.
Voices accuse system
In a statement carried by Middle East Eye, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said Bani Mufleh’s case was “not an exception,” describing it as “one of thousands of cases” involving “systematic crimes within the Israeli prison system” including torture, starvation, and denial of medical treatment.
Middle East Eye also quoted Kuwaiti-American journalist Ahmed Eldin on Instagram, saying: “The images speak to a system designed to break Palestinian bodies as much as silence Palestinian voices: starvation, abuse, humiliation, and imprisonment without accountability.”

Anadolu Ajansı reported the Palestinian Prisoner Society said Bani Mufleh is “not an isolated case, but points to thousands of cases” subjected to “systematic violations” including “continuous psychological terror.”
Al Jazeera reported that Palestinian activist Abdullah Shatat collapsed moments after his release from an Israeli jail, where he was held 32 months without charge or trial, and he said prisoners are starved, tortured and denied treatment as thousands of Palestinians remain jailed.
Al Jazeera’s account framed Shatat’s collapse as immediate after release, while Anadolu Ajansı emphasized that prisoner affairs groups have been following up on hundreds of Palestinians released in “serious health and psychological conditions.”
Releases, numbers, and next steps
Al-Jazeera Net reported that 13 Palestinian prisoners were transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in central Gaza after Israeli authorities released them via the Kerem Abu Salem crossing, with the International Committee of the Red Cross carrying out the transfer.

The ICRC said it facilitated the transfer of 13 Palestinian prisoners released from the Kerem Abu Salem crossing and made it easier for them to contact and be reunited with their families, while also stressing that it has been unable to reach prisoners detained in Israeli detention centers since October 2023.
Al-Jazeera Net added that since 2023 the ICRC has facilitated the transfer of more than 2,500 prisoners released in the same way, and renewed its call to inform it of the fate and whereabouts of all prisoners and to allow it to visit them.
The same Al-Jazeera Net report asserted that with American support, Israel on 8 October 2023 waged a war of extermination on Gaza that killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured more than 173,000 others, and it said data from the Palestinian Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip put widespread destruction affecting 90% of the enclave’s civilian infrastructure.
Al-Jazeera Net also tied the prison releases to broader detention figures, saying the Israeli army and settlers intensified assaults in the West Bank, causing the martyrdom of 1,173 Palestinians and injuring 12,666 others, as well as the detention of about 23,000, according to official Palestinian data.
